Chapter 6 - JULIAN’S DISAPPEARANCE WAS NOT A MURDER MYSTERY AFTER ALLThis mattered.

Everyone expected a twist:

Marcus killed Julian.

Vanessa helped.

Secret body.

No.

The reopened investigation found no evidence of homicide.

Julian had driven alone to Cape Ann.

Weather worsened.

He went out on a small boat.

The boat capsized.

His body was recovered months later.

Autopsy and maritime evidence remained consistent with accidental drowning.

Could someone still have caused it?

Investigators found no support.

So we did not invent it.

Vanessa had lied about timing.

She said their marriage had effectively ended before his disappearance.

Mostly true.

She hid the reports.

True.

Marcus had financial reasons to fear Julian’s audit.

True.

None of those facts proved murder.

The dangerous secret was not how Julian died.

It was what he discovered before he did.

That distinction made the story less sensational.

And more real.
