Chapter 5 - VANESSA TOLD THE TRUTH ABOUT THE TIMER

Vanessa entered plea discussions before Richard.

She had less direct technical involvement.

More evidence.

She cooperated.

Her full statement was ugly.

She had wanted to scare Maisie.

Not injure.

She wanted a scene where I arrived and overreacted.

Why?

Richard said my special trust-protector role could be challenged if I appeared emotionally unstable or hostile to parents.

So Vanessa planned mild prank.

Lock door.

Activate sprinkler briefly.

Film me yelling.

Then later say:

“Margaret interferes.”

She rationalized because Maisie would be “fine.”

But she chose child as prop.

That was central.

Then Richard secretly changed timer parameters after Vanessa approved setup.

Made water last longer.

Scheduled archive sequence.

Vanessa did not know exact.

When she realized water high, she wanted stop.

Grant resisted briefly because ego.

So no single villain except Richard? Richard mastermind, but parents still.

Then Vanessa confessed something Grant did not know.

She had been meeting Richard for six months.

Not affair.

Financial planning.

He loaned her $300,000 toward personal debt.

In exchange, she promised support for trustee change.

There.

Direct conflict.

Grant stared.

“You sold access to our daughter’s trust?”

Vanessa cried.

“I thought I would repay.”

Again.

Debt first.

Then Richard also helped hide her online-business losses from Grant.

Control through secrets.

He gathered leverage.

So Vanessa became dependent.

Then she recruited Grant emotionally:

“Your father didn’t trust you.”

“Trustee treats us like children.”

“Your mother thinks she knows better.”

All Richard’s messages filtered through her.

Grant listened because same insecurities.

Then I asked Vanessa in mediated legal conference:

“Did you dislike me before Richard?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“You were always there.”

I stared.

“I visited twice a week.”

“Exactly.”

She wanted nuclear family independence but instead of setting boundary, built resentment.

Then:

“You corrected Grant.”

“I’m his mother.”

“That was problem.”

No.

Relationship boundary discussion legitimate.

But using Maisie to remove me not.

Vanessa admitted.

“I should have asked for space.”

“Yes.”

Instead she tried to make me look unsafe.

Then she said:

“You always seemed like better mother than me.”

That was vulnerability.

Postpartum anxiety? Could mention but sensitive health memory not necessary. Fiction character can have. She struggled with confidence after Maisie birth.

Grant leaned on me.

Vanessa felt replaced.

Richard exploited.

Again explanation.

Not excuse.

Then family court ordered parenting classes, therapy, supervised contact conditions.

Vanessa and Grant separated temporarily.

Not because I demanded.

They had to decide marriage independent.

Grant moved into small rental.

Vanessa another.

Maisie stayed primarily with me under temporary plan, with supervised parental time progressing based professionals.

This is plausible enough.

Then Grant sold boat.

Vacation property.

Put company into court-supervised restructuring.

Creditors took losses.

He lost CEO role temporarily.

No child money.

He told me:

“I spent years trying to make Dad proud by keeping company alive.”

“And?”

“I almost used his granddaughter to do it.”

Yes.

Then:

“Maybe company dying would’ve been less bad.”

Correct.

Companies can fail.

Children are not rescue funds.

Then independent investors bought part of Hale Development.

Employees kept most jobs.

Grant diluted.

Painful.

But survived smaller.

Good.

Then Vanessa paid personal debt from sale of jewelry and settlement. No trust.

Richard’s loan treated evidence/claim.

Then police found one more thing.

Richard had prepared beneficiary insurance on Maisie? That veers dark. Avoid.

Better he prepared trustee fee contract.

If appointed, his management company would receive 2% annual fee—about $440,000 first year.

Direct greed.

Plus invest portion in Hale Development where he had stake.

So millions potential.

Clear.

Then court permanently barred Richard from trust involvement.

Grant and Vanessa signed no challenge.

Good.

Then Richard told press family turned against him.

May you like

No effect.

Evidence.
