Chapter 7 - MARCUS BLAMED ME FOR HIS FAILURE

At sentencing, Marcus spoke.
He said:
“Daniel had everything.”
There.
Jealousy.
He compared.
My company.
House.
Travel.
Money.
His failed deals.
Then:
“Lauren married into security while I kept drowning.”
That became resentment.
He asked Lauren for help.
At first loans.
Then more.
Then Mother’s estate looked like solution.
He said:
“I told myself it was family money.”
It wasn’t.
Then Victor.
He paid.
Then coercion.
Then chain.
He claimed:
“I never intended to hurt Eleanor.”
Maybe physically.
But he intended fear.
Judge noted.
Then restitution.
Longer custodial sentence than Lauren due organizing debt/property scheme and broader fraud.
Victor likewise serious.
Then Lauren.
Her role direct abuse, financial conspiracy.
Meaningful sentence.
No need exact years.
Then Mom victim statement:
“I am not upset because they wanted my money.”
Then:
“I am upset because they decided wanting it gave them authority over my body.”
That line.
Then:
“They used my age as permission to treat my refusal like confusion.”
Exactly.
Then:
“I do not ask court to make me powerful. I was already the person legally entitled to say no.”
Good.
Then me.
I did not ask maximum.
I said:
“I failed to notice how much access my wife had accumulated because it made my life easier.”
Then:
“That does not reduce her responsibility.”
Both.
Then judge.

Consequences.
No revenge applause.
