“Yes.”
“We need to speak about Lily.”
My blood went cold.
A complaint had been filed alleging I kidnapped Lily from Sterling family custody five years earlier.
Impossible.
Nathan had never met her.
There had never been custody.
But attached to the complaint was a document.
A private newborn guardianship agreement.
Signed by me.
Signed by Henry Sterling.
It claimed Lily had been placed temporarily under Sterling family guardianship at birth.
My signature looked real.
It wasn’t.
I had signed dozens of documents during pregnancy under pressure.
Someone had lifted my signature.
The complaint alleged I absconded with a child legally committed to the Sterling household.
Absurd.
But serious enough to create chaos.
Nathan was furious.
“Who filed it?”
His mother refused to answer.
The attorney name was Samuel Crane.
Family counsel.
Again.
The accusation did not survive scrutiny.
Hospital records showed Lily left with me.
No court approved guardianship.
No valid filing existed.
But the point had never been winning.
It was intimidation.
Create legal uncertainty.
Question my credibility.
