Chapter 7 - I READ THE FULL MEDICAL FILE THEY BUILT ABOUT ME

This was hardest.
Years later, court gave access.
Pages.
Patient emotionally labile.
Based on my crying after learning Daniel missed prenatal appointment.
Patient expresses distrust of spouse.
True.
Because affair suspicion.
Patient displays financial rigidity.
Meaning I would not merge inheritance.
Patient shows attachment to father inconsistent with marital independence.
Because I called Dad.
Patient has possible paranoid ideation regarding household finances.
I had noticed real fraud.
Every reasonable reaction translated into symptom.
Then one note:
Patient became agitated when asked about husband’s female associate.
Madison.
Of course.
I looked at my therapist.
“How do you ever defend yourself once file says this?”
She said:
“You do not prove you never had emotion. You prove source unreliable.”
That mattered.
I did not need to be perfectly calm.
Pregnant women can cry.
Yell.
Get anxious.
Have depression.
Need help.
None makes them unfit automatically.
The fraud was not that I had zero distress.
The fraud was turning distress into predetermined conclusion.
Then medical board issued correction.
Original fraudulent notes retained in audit trail but marked invalid/unsupported.
No magical deletion.
I wanted erased.
Lawyer said no.
Record history matters.
That frustrated.
But later I understood.
Correction is stronger than disappearance.
Then Dr. Cole apologized through board? Not direct perhaps.
He claimed Evelyn said I had consented to collateral assessment.
But he knew no direct examination.
Still charted.
License gone.
Then one line from his testimony:
“I allowed family status to substitute for patient consent.”
Exactly.
Power.
Then I began speaking? Do we make trauma advocacy? Not necessary.
I returned architecture.
Built civic projects.
No trauma career.
Good.
Then Dad retired.
He joked now full-time grandfather.
Grace adored medals.
Asked:
“Did you fight bad guys?”
He said:
“Mostly paperwork.”
Accurate.
Then she asked why photo from party showed apron.
We had kept private; maybe not.
At ten, age-appropriate story.
She said:
“Grandma made you clean?”
“Yes.”
“While pregnant with me?”
“Yes.”
“That’s weird.”
Yes.
Then:
“Dad did nothing?”
“He did not stop it.”
She was quiet.
Then:
“Is that why you divorced?”
“Part of bigger reason.”
No villain speech.
Then she still went to Daniel’s weekend.
May you like
Children hold complexity.
Good.
