Chapter 5 - LILY THOUGHT GRANDMA HIT NOAH BECAUSE OF HER

The children were the part adults kept trying to discuss around.
Bad.
We got therapist.
Noah said:
“I’m fine.”
Classic ten-year-old.
Then privately:
“I should’ve grabbed Grandma’s hand.”
No.
Therapist corrected.
“You protected Lily by standing between. Adults were responsible for stopping.”
Then he said:
“I wanted to hit her back.”
He did not.
Good.
Then Lily.
She cried.
“If I didn’t drop bracelet, Grandma wouldn’t hit Noah.”
That broke me.
I knelt.
“No.”
“But I looked in bag.”
“You were picking up your bracelet.”
“She got mad because I saw ring.”
“That was her choice.”
Then:
“Is Grandma in jail because of me?”
“No.”
Very clearly.
“Grandma is facing consequences because of choices she made.”
Then children asked about jewelry.
I showed photos of my mother Elena.
Pearls.
Ring.
Watch.
Lily smiled.
“She looks like you.”
Noah said:
“She looks like Lily.”
Maybe.
Then I told:
“Some jewelry was supposed to stay in family.”
Not “yours.”
No burden.
Then Lily asked:
“Can I have ring when I’m big?”
I paused.
If recovered legally, it was mine.
Mom’s letter said Claire and future granddaughter.
Yes.
Maybe.
But I said:
“When you’re old enough, we’ll decide together.”
Not destiny.
Then police returned recovered pieces after case milestones.
The ring came home first.
I did not wear.
Too heavy emotionally.
Locked with independent inventory.
Not secret.
Photographed.
Insured.
Then Lily saw.
“Can I touch?”
“Yes.”
She did.
No fear.
That mattered.
Then she handed back.
“Too big.”
May you like
Normal.
Good.
