Chapter 7: The Sister Who Chose The Truth

I used to think revenge would feel powerful.

I imagined standing in front of everyone who hurt me.

I imagined exposing every lie.

I imagined watching them finally understand my pain.

But standing in that room, holding the envelope that could destroy everyone, I felt something different.

Not power.

Fear.

Because the truth had never belonged to just one person.

It belonged to everyone.

Even the people who hurt me.

Especially them.

Richard’s men searched the room.

My mother stood beside me.

For the first time in years, we were on the same side.

But I couldn’t forget.

She had still left me.

She had still chosen silence.

“Caroline,” she whispered.

I looked at her.

“I’m sorry.””

Two words.

Two words I had waited years to hear.

But they weren’t enough.

“Why didn’t you come back?””

Her face broke.

“Because Richard convinced me you were safer without me.””

“And you believed him?””

She looked down.

“I was afraid.””

I nodded slowly.

“Everyone was afraid.””

The room went quiet.

Then my phone buzzed.

A message.

From Juliette.

Not Richard’s phone.

Her own.

A hidden signal.

*THE VIDEO IS OLD.*

I froze.

Another message.

*I’M NOT THERE.*

My eyes lifted.

Richard was watching me.

Too calmly.

Too confidently.

He wanted me scared.

He wanted me to believe Juliette was trapped.

But Juliette was smarter than that.

I typed quickly.

*Where are you?*

The reply came.

*Finding the person who actually started the fire.*

My heart raced.

I looked at Richard.

“You made one mistake.””

He raised an eyebrow.

“What?””

“You assumed Juliette was still the same person she was three years ago.””

For the first time, his smile disappeared.

My mother looked at me.

“What did she find?””

I didn’t answer.

Because the front door opened.

And Juliette walked inside.

Alive.

Uninjured.

Everyone froze.

Richard stepped backward.

“That’s impossible.””

Juliette looked at him.

“No.””

Her voice was shaking.

“But your plan is.””

She held a folder.

A thick one.

“Everything you did.””

Richard stared.

“What is that?””

“The original documents.””

My breath caught.

Juliette walked toward me.

For a moment, we just looked at each other.

My little sister.

The person who destroyed my life.

The person who helped save it.

“I should have told you,” she whispered.

I didn’t answer.

“I should have trusted you.””

Still nothing.

She cried.

“I was scared.””

I looked away.

“Everyone keeps saying that.””

“I know.””

Her voice cracked.

“But I need you to hear this.””

She placed the folder on the table.

“The fire wasn’t because of the money.””

I looked at her.

“Then why?””

She looked at Richard.

“Because of this.””

She opened the folder.

Inside were photographs.

Documents.

And one name.

Richard Vale.

But not just as a business partner.

As the person controlling my father’s illegal operation.

Richard’s face changed.

“You don’t understand what you found.””

Juliette looked at him.

“No.””

She shook her head.

“I finally understand.””

Richard moved toward her.

My mother stepped in front.

“You won’t touch her.””

Richard laughed.

“After everything she did?””

Juliette looked down.

The guilt returned.

“I deserve that.””

I looked at her.

Because that was the first time she wasn’t defending herself.

She wasn’t creating excuses.

She was accepting what she did.

Richard pointed at her.

“She tried to erase you.””

Juliette nodded.

“Yes.””

The honesty shocked everyone.

“I did.””

She looked at me.

“And I will regret it forever.””

My eyes burned.

Because forgiveness wasn’t simple.

Love wasn’t simple.

Family wasn’t simple.

Richard suddenly grabbed the folder.

But Marcus moved faster.

He pulled the folder away.

“You’re done.””

Richard laughed.

“No.””

He looked at me.

“Because she still doesn’t know the worst part.””

My stomach tightened.

“What?””

Richard smiled.

“Ask your sister why she chose Elias.””

Juliette went pale.

I looked at her.

“What does that mean?””

She didn’t answer.

That was enough.

“Juliette.””

Tears filled her eyes.

“I didn’t choose him.””

My heart stopped.

“What?””

She whispered:

“He chose me.””

The room went silent.

Then she looked at Elias standing outside the doorway.

And said:

“Because he wasn’t your fiancé when the fire happened.””

I turned.

May you like

Elias stood there.

And he looked terrified.
