Chapter 3 - SARAH HAD FIRED VICTOR SLOAN FOR TRYING TO TURN HER CHILDREN INTO FEES

Samantha brought the original trust file the next morning.

We met at her office.

No children.

Arthur attended only because Sarah’s old correspondence involved him.

Vanessa had retained counsel and was barred from house temporarily pending child-safety investigation.

The trust was worth approximately $13.4 million combined.

Not each.

Combined.

Mostly diversified investments and a minority interest in Bennett-Maren Logistics.

Emma and Ava were equal beneficiaries.

No distributions directly controlled by me.

I could request education, healthcare, housing, and support costs, but independent trustee approved.

That had always irritated Vanessa.

Apparently more than I understood.

Then Victor Sloan.

He had advised Sarah before twins were born.

He proposed “integrated family administration.”

Sounds harmless.

His firm would coordinate:

Trust distributions.

Education.

Insurance.

Property management.

Family-office reporting.

Annual fee:

About $190,000.

Plus investment referrals.

Sarah said no.

Why?

Because Victor’s firm also owned interests in vendors.

Conflict.

Then he proposed himself as “special family adviser.”

Sarah fired him.

Samantha replaced.

Then email from Sarah:

Victor keeps treating the girls like an account relationship that happens to breathe.

That was Sarah.

Then:

If I die, keep him away from their trust.

Clear.

Then Vanessa’s connection.

Years earlier she had worked in event planning for North Vale clients.

She knew Victor socially.

After Sarah died, she contacted him.

At first asking general questions.

Then more.

Then after I married Vanessa, Victor saw opportunity.

A new household.

Two trusts.

Possible management fees.

He told her:

“If Daniel wants consolidated family administration, there are structures.”

True.

But I never requested.

So how to make it appear I did?

Forged signature.

Then birth records.

Why originals?

Victor was preparing a petition to replace independent trustee? Maybe needed beneficiary verification. But not enough. Let's make he wanted to establish a new "descendant support trust" funded by distributions and claim Arthur/Maren lineage created tax reasons. Still too technical.

Better: He wanted certified lineage docs to approach Bennett-Maren family office and falsely claim authority for trust review. With Arthur alive and Sarah acknowledged, he could say he was coordinating grandchildren’s interest in family partnership. This would lend credibility and maybe redirect partnership distributions.

The twins held minority partnership units through trust.

Annual distributions ~ $400k.

Victor wanted those distributions routed to North Vale Family Administration LLC for “coordination.”

Could siphon fees.

Then forged Daniel request + birth records would make it look legitimate.

Still not principal theft.

Then Vanessa's motive:

She felt she did all childcare and got no authority.

She wanted paid family-care coordinator role at $110k/year.

She also resented twins’ attachment to Sarah.

And their noise irritated her because she was on call with Victor negotiating paperwork.

Abuse personal plus financial.

Then hidden safe.

How did Vanessa know? Sarah had used living-room cabinet? Maybe I didn't know safe? In prompt he opens. Fine.

Sarah hid copies because she distrusted Victor.

Originals with Samantha.

Safe had backup.

Then letter.

Then Victor had been trying to get originals because copies had annotations proving his conflicts perhaps.

One document in safe showed Victor previously signed conflict disclosure he later denied.

If revealed, regulator trouble.

Thus "get trust papers."

Then birth records separate but related.

Arthur asking questions threatens.

Now stakes.
