Chapter 10 - CHLOE OFFERED EVIDENCE TO SAVE HERSELFChloe cooperated.

Aggressively.

She provided messages.

Bank records.

Audio.

Emails.

She blamed Diane.

Then Peter.

Then Julian.

Investigators did not care about narrative performance.

They cared about evidence.

Chloe admitted she intentionally shoved me.

She claimed she expected Nathan to catch me because she saw him nearby.

That defense was obscene.

As if planning a safety net made assault less real.

She also admitted discussing ways to create temporary incapacity.

No murder plot.

No hired killer.

Something more mundane and believable.

An “accident.”

Hospital bed.

Delayed signatures.

Time.

Enough for forged authorizations to move through.

She had rehearsed the lie before the party.

She slipped.

That was what frightened me most.

Not only the shove.

The confidence that everyone would accept the easier story.

If I had not recorded her, maybe they would have.
