Chapter 11 - JULIAN LOST HIS MARRIAGE BEFORE HE LOST HIS CAREERJulian was not charged with planning my assault.

Evidence did not support that.
He genuinely did not know.
But his affair and careless disclosure of marital information became relevant elsewhere.
He had shared travel schedules.
Household details.
My medical appointment dates.
He thought Chloe was curious.
She was gathering.
His professional reputation suffered.
Not because I publicly attacked him.
Because corporate boards dislike executives who let intimate relationships become security failures.
His own company placed him on leave.
Eventually he resigned.
During mediation, he said:
“I lost everything.”
I looked at him.
“No.”
He frowned.
“You still have a son.”
That changed his face.
“You still have your health.”
Silence.
“Your education.”
“Your relationships if you rebuild them.”
Then:
“You lost a marriage and a job.”
I said.
“Those are huge losses.”
A pause.
“But don’t turn consequences into proof your life is over.”
I had learned that from my own father.
Julian cried.
Then asked:
“Is there any chance for us?”
“No.”
I did not hesitate.
That hurt him.
But uncertainty would have been crueler.
“I can forgive some things eventually.”
I said.
“That does not mean I can trust you as my husband.”
May you like
He nodded.
And for once, he did not argue.
