Chapter 8 - LILY LEARNED SHE DID NOT “OWN THE ROOM”

At eighteen, Lily sat with Samantha.

Arthur.

Me.

Trust education.

Value had grown substantially.

But Bennett Hospitality was now more diversified.

Trust held majority economic interest through multiple entities.

Professional board.

Lily had future governance rights but no automatic command.

Then Samantha said:

“At your grandfather’s wedding confrontation—”

Lily laughed.

“My mom’s wedding.”

Right.

Then:

“Arthur said you owned more of room than Evelyn.”

Arthur grimaced.

“I regret phrase.”

Lily smiled.

“Good.”

Then she asked:

“Do I own hotel?”

Samantha answered:

“The trust in which you are beneficiary owns a controlling interest in parent company that owns several hotels, including that property. That does not mean you personally run or freely sell hotel.”

Perfect.

Then:

“So internet lied.”

“Internet simplified.”

Then:

“Can I sell everything?”

“No, not unilaterally.”

“Good.”

Then she said:

“I don’t want to run hotels.”

Arthur:

“You don’t have to.”

She studied veterinary medicine? Let's choose industrial design or marine conservation. Maybe environmental engineering.

She chose environmental science.

No dynasty.

Then trust governance updated.

Independent trustees continue.

Lily could nominate one board representative after twenty-five if she wanted.

She later nominated professional.

Good.

Then she funded no revenge foundation.

Just lived.
