Chapter 2 - The Secret Heir My Father Hid From MeThe rain stopped.

But the storm inside the mansion had only begun.

Nobody moved after seeing the document.

The words remained on the page.

PRIMARY HEIR IF EMILY HARPER IS EVER HARMED.

Daniel stared.

Evelyn stared.

Vanessa stared.

Even I couldn’t understand.

Because my father had never told me about this.

“Dad?”

My father looked at me.

His expression softened.

“I wanted to protect you.”

I frowned.

“Protect me from what?”

He looked around the mansion.

“From people who only love what they can take.”

Those words were directed at Evelyn.

And everyone knew it.

Daniel looked at me.

“Emily…”

I could see the questions in his eyes.

Not anger.

Confusion.

“You never told me any of this.”

I swallowed.

“I never wanted money to be part of our marriage.”

He looked at me.

“I know.”

My father nodded.

“That is exactly why she never told you.”

Evelyn laughed.

A nervous laugh.

“This is ridiculous.”

Everyone looked at her.

“You expect us to believe Emily is some hidden billionaire?”

My father smiled.

“You don’t have to believe it.”

He handed the documents to Daniel.

“The proof is there.”

Daniel opened the folder.

The more he read…

The quieter he became.

Trust accounts.

Foundation records.

Property documents.

Everything.

My name was everywhere.

But there was something else.

Another file.

Older.

Hidden.

Daniel opened it.

Then froze.

“What?”

I stepped closer.

“What is it?”

He looked at my father.

“Who is Alexander?”

My father went silent.

That name.

Alexander.

I had heard it before.

Only once.

When I was young.

My father had told me:

“Some family stories are better left buried.”

I never questioned him.

Until now.

My father sat down.

“I hoped you would never need to know.”

Evelyn’s face changed.

She knew that name.

That scared me.

“Who is Alexander?” Daniel asked again.

My father looked at me.

“Your brother.”

My heart stopped.

“What?”

Daniel looked shocked.

“Emily has a brother?”

My father nodded slowly.

“Your mother had two children.”

I stared.

“I thought…”

“I know what you thought.”

He looked sad.

“But that was the story I was forced to tell.”

My father explained.

Thirty years ago, before I was born, the Harper family faced a crisis.

My grandfather’s company was being attacked.

Rivals wanted control.

Someone inside the family betrayed them.

And during that chaos…

My older brother disappeared.

Alexander Harper.

The first heir.

The child everyone expected to inherit everything.

But one night…

He vanished.

No body.

No evidence.

No explanation.

My father spent years searching.

But eventually…

Everyone believed he was gone.

“So why is he still listed as heir?”

I asked.

My father looked down.

“Because I never stopped believing he was alive.”

The room became silent.

Then Evelyn spoke.

“He is dead.”

Everyone turned.

My father looked at her.

“You seem very sure.”

Her face changed.

Only for a second.

But enough.

My father noticed.

“You know something.”

Evelyn looked away.

“I know rumors.”

My father stepped closer.

“No.”

His voice became cold.

“You know exactly what happened.”

That night, Daniel and I talked.

Not about the money.

Not about the inheritance.

About trust.

“I feel like I don’t know anything.”

I looked at him.

“About me?”

He shook his head.

“No.”

A pause.

“About my own family.”

I reached for his hand.

“I should have told you.”

He looked at me.

“Why didn’t you?”

“Because I wanted to know if you loved Emily.”

I smiled sadly.

“Not the Harper name.”

Daniel looked down.

Then he whispered:

“I did.”

I smiled.

“I know.”

The next morning, my father received a package.

No return address.

Inside was an old photograph.

Everyone gathered around.

The picture showed a young man.

Alexander.

Standing beside someone.

A woman.

A woman Evelyn recognized immediately.

She dropped the photo.

“No.”

My father picked it up.

“Who is she?”

Evelyn said nothing.

My father looked at her.

“Tell me.”

She whispered:

“That woman was never supposed to come back.”

The room froze.

Daniel frowned.

“Who?”

Evelyn looked at the photograph.

Then said:

“Alexander’s wife.”

My father stared.

“My son’s wife disappeared.”

May you like

Evelyn nodded.

“And she took the biggest secret with her.”
