My father looked at her coldly.
“You worked with Evelyn.”
Vanessa shrugged.
“Yes.”
The honesty shocked everyone.
“You knew everything?”
“Yes.”
Daniel looked hurt.
“Why?”
Vanessa laughed.
“Because Evelyn promised me power.”
A pause.
“And I wanted what Emily had.”
I looked at her.
“What?”
She looked at me.
“Everything.”
Vanessa explained.
She had not married Daniel because she loved him.
She married him because he was connected to the Harper fortune.
She watched.
She waited.

Just like Evelyn.
My son Leo was never the problem.

Daniel immediately stepped forward.
“Enough.”

“Because the truth about that boy…”
A pause.
“Changes everything.”
The police pulled her away.
But the damage was done.
