Chapter 8 - The Father Who Came Back For The Wrong ReasonMichael looked at Leo.

But there was no emotion in his eyes.

No love.

No regret.

Only calculation.

That hurt more than I expected.

Because a part of me had always hoped…

Maybe he had changed.

Maybe seeing his son would awaken something.

It didn’t.

“Leo.”

His voice sounded unfamiliar.

Leo hid behind Daniel.

A small movement.

But everyone noticed.

Daniel immediately placed a hand on his shoulder.

Protective.

“You stay away from him.”

Michael laughed.

“You’re not his father.”

Daniel looked at him.

“I raised him.”

“That doesn’t make him yours.”

The words were cruel.

But before Daniel could answer…

My father stepped forward.

“No.”

Everyone looked at him.

“He is Daniel’s son.”

Michael smiled.

“You don’t decide that.”

My father opened a folder.

“Yes.”

A pause.

“Actually, I do.”

Inside the folder were documents.

Legal documents.

Custody records.

Medical records.

And one final paper.

A signed agreement.

Michael’s face changed.

“What is that?”

My father answered:

“The agreement you signed when you abandoned Emily and Leo.”

Michael became pale.

“You said you wanted no responsibility.”

The room went silent.

“You gave up your parental rights.”

Michael looked angry.

“That was years ago.”

“Yes.”

My father looked at him.

“And you came back only after learning Emily was connected to the Harper fortune.”

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone knew.

Michael wasn’t there for Leo.

He was there for money.

Evelyn laughed.

“You see?”

Everyone turned.

She smiled.

“You’re all the same.”

Daniel looked disgusted.

“You manipulated him too.”

She shrugged.

“He was useful.”

Michael looked at her.

“What?”

“You thought you were special?”

Evelyn smiled.

“You were just another person I controlled.”

For the first time…

Michael looked betrayed.

The woman he worked with had never respected him.

She had used him.

Just like everyone else.

Then Evelyn revealed the final part of her plan.

“The Harper Foundation.”

Everyone froze.

“What about it?”

She looked at me.

“Emily is the heir.”

A pause.

“But if she is unable to lead…”

My father understood.

“No.”

Evelyn smiled.

“That is why the document exists.”

The emergency heir document.

The one that protected me.

But Evelyn had found a weakness.

She pointed at Leo.

“If something happens to Emily…”

Daniel stepped forward.

“Stop.”

But she continued.

“The foundation passes to her child.”

Everyone looked at Leo.

My heart stopped.

Because suddenly I understood.

They didn’t just want my money.

They wanted my son.

The next morning, we discovered something terrifying.

Someone had tried to access Leo’s school records.

Someone had requested information about his identity.

The request came from a company.

A company connected to Michael.

Daniel stared at the report.

“He was planning this.”

I nodded.

“Yes.”

My father looked at me.

“This is no longer about inheritance.”

He looked toward Leo.

“This is about protecting him.”

That night, Daniel sat beside Leo’s bed.

Watching him sleep.

I stood at the door.

“He loves you.”

Daniel looked back.

“I know.”

A pause.

“But I almost lost him because everyone kept secrets.”

I walked closer.

“We won’t anymore.”

He held my hand.

“No more secrets.”

The next morning…

A lawyer arrived.

Not ours.

Michael’s.

He placed papers on the table.

A custody petition.

Daniel looked at it.

Then laughed.

“You’re trying this?”

The lawyer stayed silent.

Michael’s signature was at the bottom.

He wanted custody.

Of the child he abandoned.

The child he never raised.

The child who didn’t even know him.

My father picked up the document.

Then noticed something.

A second signature.

Someone else had approved it.

Someone with power.

Someone who could influence the court.

May you like

The signature belonged to…

Daniel’s father.
