Chapter 8 - MATTEO STOPPED USING SECURITY AS PARENTING

After incident Matteo initially became obsessive.
Cameras.
Alerts.
Background checks.
Leo at six finally complained:
“Why is everybody watching?”
That woke Matteo.
Protection can become control too.
He reduced.
Cameras only entries/common safety areas.
No tracking Leo inside home.
No reading private journals when older.
Security team trained but not parent.
Then Matteo remarried when Leo was thirteen.
Her name Giulia Moretti? Detective surname conflict. Use Isabella Conti.
An architect.
Independent career.
She never asked to be Mom.
Leo called her Isabella.
She did not handle trust.
Not because distrusted personally.
Because roles.
Then when she married Matteo, she received security briefing with one line:
“No disciplinary authority involving confinement, financial leverage, or surveillance. Parenting decisions stay explicit.”
She joked:
“Romantic prenup.”
Matteo laughed.
Healthy.
Then Isabella and Leo had normal friction.
Curfew later.
Homework.
No villain.
Leo once shouted:
“You’re not my mother!”
Room froze.
History.
Isabella said:
“I know. You still have to take dishes to kitchen.”
Leo paused.
Then laughed.
Important.
Dishes became ordinary household responsibility again.
Not humiliation.
He carried plate.
Wore clothes.
Had choice/dignity.
Then Matteo watched from doorway.
Memory.
Isabella noticed.
“Don’t make face.”
Everyone knows.
Then Leo said:
“I can wash it.”
Matteo:
“You don’t have to prove anything.”
“I know.”
He washed one plate.
Because it was his.
That difference mattered.
Then trust at eighteen.
Leo learned value around $19 million.
He stared.
“All that drama for this?”
“Not only.”
Then Rebecca’s successor explained.
Money.
Control.
Status.
Family mythology.
Then Leo chose professional trustee.
He declined early family-board observer role.
Studied sound engineering.
Matteo supported.
Relatives disappointed.
Too bad.
Then at twenty-five, Leo still did not join Bellucci Industries.
He owned economic interests through trust.
Delegated voting.
No dynastic job.
The “heir” became musician/producer maybe.
That's okay.
Then Matteo joked:
“Your grandfather is rolling in grave.”
Leo:
May you like
“Good rhythm?”
Family humor.
