Chapter 5 - THE HEIR WHO DIDN’T KNOW HE OWNED AN EMPIREFor years, Adrian Blackwood believed he was protecting Ethan.

He believed his son needed a normal childhood.
A safe home.
A peaceful life.
He never wanted Ethan to grow up surrounded by the pressure of wealth and power.
That was why he kept the family trust secret.
That was why he never told him about the shares.
That was why he never told him that one day…
everything would belong to him.
But now Adrian realized something terrifying.
Someone else knew.
And they had known for years.
The next morning, Adrian called his family attorney, Richard Coleman.
Richard had handled the Blackwood family’s legal matters for twenty years.
He was the man Adrian trusted with everything.
When Richard arrived, Adrian placed the documents on the table.
“Tell me the truth.”
Richard looked at the papers.
Then slowly removed his glasses.
“You found out.”
Adrian’s expression hardened.
“So you knew.”
Richard sighed.
“Yes.”
The answer hurt.
Not because Adrian was surprised.
Because he was tired of being betrayed.
“How much?”
Richard looked confused.
“What?”
“How much did you know?”
Richard was silent.
“Did you know Ethan controlled the family trust?”
“Yes.”
“Did you know Victoria was trying to become his guardian?”
“Yes.”
“Did you tell me?”
Richard lowered his eyes.
“No.”
Adrian stood.
“Why?”
The lawyer looked ashamed.
“Because Claire asked me not to.”
That stopped him.
“Claire?”
Richard nodded.
“She knew something was wrong before she died.”
Richard explained.
Two months before the accident, Claire discovered Victoria had been investigating Ethan’s inheritance.
She discovered private meetings.
Hidden accounts.
Documents.
Claire knew Victoria was not interested in Adrian’s money.
She wanted Ethan’s future.
So Claire made a decision.
She changed the trust.
“She added a protection clause.”
Adrian frowned.
“What kind of clause?”
Richard opened another file.
“If Ethan is under the control of someone who attempts to manipulate, isolate, or remove his connection to his biological family…”
A pause.
“The trust transfers control temporarily to a protective guardian.”
Adrian looked at him.
“Who?”
Richard hesitated.
Then answered:
“You.”
Adrian stared.
Claire had planned everything.
She knew.
She knew someone would try to take Ethan.
She knew someone would try to erase her.
And she built a trap.
That afternoon, Adrian called an emergency board meeting.
The Blackwood Corporation headquarters had never seen anything like it.
Executives.
Investors.
Lawyers.
Everyone gathered.
And then Victoria walked in.
Confident.
Beautiful.
Unconcerned.
She still believed she was winning.
She sat across from Adrian.
“Is this about the divorce?”
Adrian looked at her.
“No.”
A pause.
“This is about fraud.”
The room became silent.
Victoria’s smile disappeared.
“What?”
Adrian pressed a button.
The screen behind him turned on.
Bank transfers appeared.
Secret meetings.
Messages.
Documents.
Every piece of evidence.
“You entered my family under false intentions.”
Victoria remained calm.
“You can’t prove that.”
Adrian smiled slightly.
“I don’t need to.”
The doors opened.
Detectives entered.
Victoria looked shocked.
Because for the first time…
she realized Adrian was not asking questions anymore.
He was making moves.
But Victoria did not panic.
Instead, she laughed.
Everyone looked at her.
“You still don’t understand.”
Adrian stared.
“Understand what?”
She leaned forward.
“You think exposing me changes everything?”
A pause.
“You think I was the only person who wanted Ethan?”
Adrian’s expression changed.
The screen suddenly changed.
A document appeared.
A custody agreement.
Signed six months earlier.
A document Adrian had never seen.
Victoria smiled.
“You were traveling constantly.”
Adrian stared.
“You forged my signature.”
“No.”
She smiled.
“You approved it.”
Impossible.
Adrian looked at Richard.
The lawyer looked horrified.
Someone else had accessed Adrian’s digital signature.
Someone inside the company.
Someone with authority.
Then a name appeared.
The person who authorized the transfer.
Adrian stopped breathing.
Because it was someone he trusted.
His own brother.
Michael Blackwood.
Michael stood at the back of the room.
Everyone turned.
Adrian looked at him.
“You.”
Michael smiled.
“I was wondering when you would figure it out.”
Michael walked forward slowly.
“You always thought you were the smartest person in the room.”
Adrian said nothing.
“But you missed the obvious.”
“What?”
Michael looked toward Ethan’s photo on the wall.
“You built an empire.”
A pause.
“But you forgot someone would want to inherit it.”
Adrian finally understood.
Victoria was not the mastermind.
She was only the face.
Michael was the one inside.
The one with access.
The one who could manipulate documents.
The one who knew exactly how the family worked.
That night, Adrian returned home.
He entered Ethan’s room.
His son was asleep.
Holding Claire’s toy.
Adrian sat beside him.
“I’m sorry.”
Ethan opened his eyes.
“Daddy?”
Adrian smiled sadly.
“I should have listened sooner.”
The little boy looked confused.
“To Mommy?”
Adrian nodded.
“Yes.”
The next morning, Adrian received a message.
Unknown number.
One sentence.
Your wife was not the only person who tried to protect Ethan.
Attached was a photo.
A photograph of Claire.
Standing beside another person.
May you like
A person Adrian recognized immediately.
Because that person was supposed to be dead.
