Chapter 6 - RICHARD VALE FINALLY HAD TO WAIT

Richard hated waiting.

That was irony.

His steak was fourteen minutes late.

That was why he pushed me.

Months later, he waited for court.

Waited for board.

Waited for investigators.

Could not shout process faster.

Then plea? Let's decide evidence strong; he went trial? For drama.

He fought.

Claimed payments were legal lobbying/hospitality.

Some were.

Prosecutors had to prove quid pro quo.

Julia’s recordings crucial.

One:

Martin Keane, procurement official:

“The nonprofit needs support before vote.”

Richard:

“You’ll have it. Then Riverside?”

Keane:

“If score holds.”

Not explicit.

Then after payment:

Keane:

“Score issue is handled.”

Evidence.

Then subcontract bid had been lower-ranked before committee adjustment.

Technical staff objected.

Their memos buried.

Strong.

Then Richard testified? Maybe not.

Trial lengthy.

Stephen cooperated against him.

Paul cooperated.

Lydia.

Marcus Lane returned from Florida under subpoena, pleaded to fraud and testified.

Chain.

Then Richard convicted on multiple fraud/bribery-related counts? We can avoid exact statutes. Also assault plea separately.

Martin Keane convicted.

Stephen lesser with cooperation.

Paul pleaded to fraud/conspiracy, restitution, no Bellamy roles.

Grandfather attended Paul sentencing.

Hard.

Paul apologized.

“I wanted to prove I could make deals without Dad.”

Then:

“I used family name to get into rooms and complained family never gave me power.”

Good.

He served shorter custodial/probation depending role.

No total disowning.

Caroline visited.

Grandfather initially couldn't.

Then later.

Family repair separate from business.

Then Richard sentencing.

I gave victim statement only on assault? Financial case had broader victims (city taxpayers/company/shareholders).

I said:

“You knocked me down because you believed service worker had no consequence.”

Then:

“The financial evidence showed same assumption in larger form. People below you were objects—servers, staff, city money, shareholders.”

Maybe too broad but fine.

Then:

“My grandfather’s wealth does not make assault worse. It only made it harder for you to pretend I had no voice.”

Good.

Then Julia spoke about retaliation.

Technical city staff about overridden scores.

Taxpayer impact.

Then judge.

No need quote too much.

Richard received meaningful sentence and financial penalties.

Then civil recovery.

Vale Urban reorganized governance.

Shareholders replaced board members who enabled.

Company survived.

Employees did not deserve destruction.

New CEO.

Julia declined CFO return but became independent monitor? She accepted temporary advisory role then left.

Good.

Then Bellamy accepted no heroic savior narrative.

Our own compliance failures documented.

Paul and Lydia exposed.

May you like

Foundation restructured.

That made story stronger.
