Chapter 6 - THE DOCUMENT ELENA SAWElena had accidentally walked into Mom’s study while Victoria, Lauren, and Gerald were discussing a draft petition.
It alleged:
Judith was cognitively declining.
I was exerting undue influence.
I was mismanaging trust assets.
And immediate intervention was needed.
None of it was true.
Mom had recently completed a neurocognitive evaluation voluntarily after a mild medication reaction.
She was fully competent.
Our trust records were clean.
So they needed evidence.
Gerald said:
“Patterns matter more than one document.”
Victoria asked:
“What kind of patterns?”
“Missed appointments. Confusion. Contradictory instructions.”
Lauren replied:
“She doesn’t do those things.”
Gerald said:
“Then document them when they happen.”
That sentence was technically cautious.
Then Victoria asked:
“And if they don’t happen?”
Silence.
Gerald answered:
“They will.”
That was what Elena heard.
She became suspicious.
Then she saw Victoria moving Mom’s medication organizer.
Changing calendar notes.
Throwing away reminder cards.
Small acts designed to create apparent confusion.
Not poisoning.
Not dramatic.
