Chapter 4 - THE TRUST DID NOT MAKE LILY IMPORTANT

The media found out.
Of course.
Headline:
BILLIONAIRE HEIRESS FOUND IN GARDEN PIT DURING FAMILY PARTY
I hated every word.
Lily was not important because trust had $11 million.
So I made one statement:
“My daughter’s financial circumstances have nothing to do with her right to safety. Please do not identify or photograph her.”
Then silence.
No press tour.
Then child services.
They interviewed professionally.
Lily described:
Garden pit.
Being locked in guest bathroom once.
Vanessa hiding Emma’s necklace.
Grandmother telling her “money makes children selfish.”
No severe physical pattern beyond garden, grabbing, forced isolations.
But emotional.
Then she said:
“Grandma says Daddy will send me to school because I cry.”
There.
This had been repeated.
Then a private evaluator they had used:
Dr. Melissa Price.
Original notes:
Child demonstrates normal bereavement-related sadness and anxiety. No recommendation for residential treatment.
The version in Mother’s safe:
Child demonstrates significant emotional instability; consider structured placement.
Altered.
Who altered?
Metadata linked to family attorney Victor Sloan.
New person.
Estate/family lawyer who advised Mother on guardianship.
Did he know context?
Emails showed he knew original did not recommend placement and nevertheless produced “legal summary” exaggerating.
He claimed summary, not medical report.
But then attached as exhibit without clarification.
Professional misconduct/fraud.
Then Victor’s fees:
If guardianship plan succeeded, his firm would earn around $140,000 annually.
Again.
Then transfers.
$3.8 million not all stolen.
Breakdown:
$1.4m remained in Carter Family Residential Services accounts.
$900k used to purchase a property intended as “family therapeutic residence,” owned by company partly controlled by Mother/Vanessa.
$600k paid consultants/legal.
$500k household/security expenses that may have been legitimate but improperly allocated to Lily trust.
$400k other disputed transfers.
Independent audit.
Some recoverable.
No trust wiped.
Then Samantha froze disputed pathways.
Trust remained intact.
Then Dad’s safe prevented destruction.
Good.
Then charges.
Mother:
Financial exploitation of minor trust, forgery/conspiracy, child endangerment/unlawful restraint.
Vanessa:
Child abuse/endangerment, fraud/forgery/conspiracy.
Victor Sloan:
Fraud, use of altered records, fiduciary conflict, professional offenses.
Elaine Foster:
Cooperated; administrative negligence, no evidence knowing abuse/fraud. Lost family-office role but not criminal necessarily.
Different.
Then Mother said:
“You’re sending your own mother to prison?”
I answered:
“I reported evidence. Court decides consequences.”
Systems.
Not personal sentencing.
Then she said:
“Your father would never.”
Samantha quietly replied:
May you like
“Thomas documented it.”
That ended.
