Chapter 9 - THE HOSPITAL REVIEW FOUND THREE MORE INCIDENTSMom’s unexplained sedation had not begun two days earlier.

A retrospective chart review found three earlier outpatient episodes over six weeks.

One after Sunday dinner at our house.

One after a family board meeting.

One after Serena drove Mom to a cardiology appointment.

Each time, Mom complained:

“Something is making me foggy.”

Doctors adjusted blood-pressure medications.

No one suspected covert dosing.

Why would they?

The amounts were small.

Symptoms nonspecific.

That was the scary part.

No cinematic poisoning.

No dramatic collapse.

Just enough confusion to make an older woman doubt herself.

Investigators reviewed Serena’s messages.

One to Marcus after the board meeting:

She still remembered everything.

Marcus:

Then dose was too low.

My hands shook reading that.

That message destroyed any claim that this was simply about helping Mom sleep.

They were testing effect.

Repeatedly.

That became a much more serious matter.
