Chapter 5 - EVELYN WANTED ME DECLARED INCAPABLE, NOT DEAD

Investigators found a draft petition in Evelyn’s laptop.
Not filed.
Petition for Temporary Protective Financial Management
Subject:
Claire Bennett Carter.
Grounds:
Post-accident cognitive impairment.
Mobility limitations.
Medication dependency.
Emotional instability.
Proposed agent:
Daniel Carter.
Adviser:
Evelyn Carter.
The language was careful.
Not guardianship over life.
Temporary financial authority.
Why?
Because my Bennett shares and personal accounts required direct consent for certain transactions.
If court granted limited authority, Daniel could legally manage more.
Would court have?
Probably not with current medical evidence.
But if they used outdated records and controlled narrative?
They hoped.
Then psychiatric note.
I had never been evaluated by psychiatrist.
But one concierge physician, Dr. Martin Lowe, wrote:
Family reports patient has periods of confusion, irritability, and impaired concentration.
Family reports.
Not diagnosis.
Who reported?
Evelyn and Daniel.
Then later summary prepared by Victor Sloan turned that into:
Documented cognitive instability.
Misleading.
Then my actual rehabilitation notes said:
Cognition intact.
Omitted.
There.
Pattern.
Then Evelyn’s motive.
Carter Development in danger.
She had spent forty years protecting family name.
Daniel’s father, Charles Carter, died five years earlier.
Evelyn believed company was his legacy.
If Daniel admitted financial problems, reputation gone.
Then I.
Wealthy wife.
Bennett capital.
She thought my money should rescue Carter.
I refused? I never even got honest ask.
But months before accident Daniel asked if I would guarantee Carter credit line.
I said no without independent review.
Evelyn never forgave.
Then after accident, she saw opportunity.
Not to kill.
To use temporary weakness.
Her emails:
Claire will recover eventually. We need structure before then.
There.
Then:
Once Carter is stabilized, Daniel can explain.
As if unauthorized transfer can be explained later.
Then Madison.
Evelyn disliked mistress at first.
Then accepted because Madison supported Daniel unquestioningly.
She told Madison:
“Claire uses money to control him.”
Projection.
Then ballroom humiliation.
Evelyn wanted me to sign divorce settlement.
Terms:
I waived any claim to Carter Development.
Fine.
Daniel waived claim to Bennett shares.
Already separate.
Then one dangerous clause:
I ratified all “investment transactions undertaken by Daniel during my medical recovery.”
There.
Retroactive forgiveness.
I refused.
Evelyn poured soup.
Not random.
She wanted break me emotionally in public.
Madison laughed.
Then Dad came.
Then standing.
Everything collapsed.
Then I asked Evelyn in mediated interview:
“Did you want me dead?”
She looked horrified.
“No.”
I believed.
“Did you know Daniel hid brake warning?”
She hesitated.
“I learned after accident.”
“When?”
“Two days later.”
“And you did what?”
“Nothing.”
That hurt.
“You didn’t tell me.”
“You were already injured.”
“So truth was unnecessary?”
“I was protecting him.”
Again protection.
Then:
“Did you think he caused crash?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“He loved you.”
I stared.
Love did not answer negligence.
Then:
“Did you use my accident?”
“Yes.”
Finally.
Then:
“Why?”
“To save Carter.”
There.
She believed company deserved sacrifice.
My autonomy.
My money.
My marriage.
Then:
“Would you do it again?”
She cried.
“No.”
May you like
Maybe.
Consequences would test.
