Chapter 6 - DANIEL ADMITTED THE ACCIDENT WAS HIS FAULT IN A WAY HE NEVER INTENDED

Not legally “his fault” entirely.

Road was wet.

I was driving.

Brake system had not failed completely.

Expert reconstruction:

Warning indicated degraded brake-assist sensor/module.

Manual braking still functional but required greater force under certain conditions.

On wet curve, I braked late.

System assistance inconsistent.

Car slid.

Could a serviced vehicle have prevented?

Possibly.

Not certain.

Did Daniel know risk?

He knew warning.

He cleared notification.

Told me vehicle ready.

That was reckless.

Then interview.

“Why clear it?”

Daniel said:

“Claire would have been furious I borrowed car and ignored warning.”

Pathetic.

That was reason.

He wanted avoid argument.

Not kill me.

Then:

“Why tell her ready?”

“I thought it was sensor glitch.”

“Based on what?”

“Nothing.”

There.

Then accident.

He arrived hospital.

Cried.

Stayed.

Was guilt genuine?

Probably.

Then two weeks later company crisis.

Graham offered structure.

Evelyn pushed.

Daniel started using my authority.

He told himself temporary.

Then first transfer.

Then second.

Then affair already existed.

Everything became worse.

At mediation, I asked:

“When did you stop seeing me as wife and start seeing me as account?”

He cried.

“I don’t know.”

Then:

“Did you ever plan to tell me transfers?”

“Yes.”

“When?”

“When Carter stabilized.”

That answer.

“So after you fixed your problem with my money.”

“Yes.”

Then:

“Did you know Madison got twenty percent?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“I promised her a future.”

While married to me.

Then:

“You gave her future with my money.”

He looked down.

“Yes.”

Then:

“Did you love her?”

“I thought so.”

“Did you love me?”

“Yes.”

I laughed once.

He looked hurt.

“You keep saying love like it reduces evidence.”

He stopped.

Then:

“Why didn’t you help me when your mother poured soup?”

Silence.

That was most personal.

Not millions.

Not brakes.

Soup.

“I was ashamed.”

“Of me?”

“Of everything.”

“So you looked away.”

“Yes.”

Then:

“That was choice.”

“Yes.”

Good.

Then he asked:

“Can you ever forgive me?”

I answered:

“Probably.”

Hope appeared.

Then:

“That does not mean marriage survives.”

It disappeared.

Important.

Forgiveness not access.

Then criminal/civil outcomes pending.

Daniel faced:

Unauthorized transfers/fraud.

Use of expired authority.

Potential reckless conduct related vehicle warning depending prosecutor.

Obstruction? He deleted some texts after investigation? Let's not add unless needed.

No attempted murder.

Affair not crime.

Medical misrepresentation part of fraud.

Then restitution.

Red Harbor funds partly frozen.

Good.

Of $2.97m transferred, around $2.4m remained traceable/frozen in vehicle or accounts.

Some used for Carter debt payments/fees.

Recover through settlements.

No magic full instant return.

Then Carter Development.

Independent restructuring.

Daniel removed as CEO by board/lenders.

Company survived under professional management, smaller after asset sales.

No “father destroys company.”

Consequences from debt/fraud.

Then Madison.

Her 20% interest frozen.

She claimed no knowledge funds unauthorized.

Evidence showed she knew relationship and received luxury expenses, but not necessarily forged authority.

However one message:

M: Is Claire really okay with this?

Daniel:

She signed broad authority.

Madison:

Good enough for me.

Willful ignorance.

Civil disgorgement.

Potential conspiracy depending more.

Then ballroom cruelty separate.

Soup? She did not pour, laughed and encouraged divorce.

No criminal assault by her unless helped. Keep noncriminal on soup.

May you like

Then public shame.

No need excessive.
