Chapter 2 - The Daughter Hidden For Thirty YearsThe silence after my mother revealed Elena was unbearable.

Nobody knew what to say.
Marcus looked at the woman standing in the doorway.
Then at the photograph.
Then back at my mother.
“No.”
His voice was barely audible.
“No, that’s impossible.”
My mother looked at him.
“I wish it was.”
Elena stood frozen.
She looked like she wanted to cry.
But she was also afraid.
Afraid of walking into a family that had spent thirty years without her.
Marcus pointed at her.
“Who is she?”
My mother answered:
“She is my daughter.”
He shook his head.
“I’m your son.”
Victoria looked at him sadly.
“Yes.”
A pause.
“But you were never my only child.”
That sentence hurt him.
I could see it.
Marcus had spent his entire life believing he was the center of everything.
The heir.
The favorite.
The future owner of everything.
And suddenly…
Someone else existed.
Someone who had a claim.
Someone who carried my mother’s eyes.
The attorney placed the will on the bed.
“Mrs. Harper requested everyone hear this together.”
Marcus laughed.
“This is a joke.”
The attorney remained calm.
“No.”
He opened the document.
“This is the legally verified final will of Victoria Harper.”
Marcus looked at my mother.
“You’re giving everything to a stranger?”
My mother’s expression hardened.
“She is not a stranger.”
“She disappeared!”
“No.”
My mother looked at him.
“She was taken from me.”
The room became silent.
I looked at Elena.
She looked confused.
“What does that mean?”
My mother took a deep breath.
“Thirty years ago, I was young.”
She looked at the photograph.
“I had two children.”
Marcus stared.
“Twins?”
She nodded.
“Yes.”
Everyone froze.
“You and Elena were born on the same day.”
My entire body went cold.
Marcus looked at Elena.
“My twin?”
Elena wiped her tears.
“I didn’t know either.”
My mother continued.
“After you were born, someone changed everything.”
The attorney placed another document on the table.
A birth record.
A court document.
A sealed adoption file.
Marcus looked confused.
“Who?”
My mother’s face became painful.
“Your father.”
Everyone froze.
Marcus stepped back.
“My father?”
She nodded.
“Your father believed he could not raise two children.”
“That’s impossible.”
“He made a choice.”
My mother looked at Elena.
“And I was forced to give her away.”
Elena whispered:
“Why didn’t you find me?”
My mother’s eyes filled with tears.
“I tried.”
A pause.
“Every year.”
She looked at the floor.
“But someone stopped me.”
Marcus frowned.
“Who?”
My mother looked at him.
“Your father.”
The man standing beside Elena finally spoke.
His name was Robert.
Marcus stared at him.
“You knew?”
Robert looked ashamed.
“Yes.”
Marcus looked betrayed.
“You knew I had a sister?”
“Yes.”
“And you never told me?”
Robert lowered his head.
“I was wrong.”
Marcus laughed bitterly.
“Everyone lied to me.”
I watched him.
For the first time in years…
He looked vulnerable.
Not angry.
Not arrogant.
Just lost.
But then his expression changed.
He looked at the will again.
“Wait.”
Everyone turned.
“You’re giving Elena everything?”
The attorney nodded.
Marcus smiled.
A cold smile.
“So this was all a trick.”
My mother frowned.
“What?”
“You pretended to be dying.”
He pointed at Elena.
“So she could come back and take everything.”
My mother stared.
“I did not do this for money.”
Marcus laughed.
“Of course.”
He looked at Elena.
“You just appeared and suddenly you’re the heir?”
Elena finally spoke.
“I don’t want your money.”
Marcus looked at her.
“Then why are you here?”
She looked at my mother.
“Because she’s my mother.”
That answer silenced everyone.
Later that night, I found my mother sitting alone.
She looked exhausted.
“Mom?”
She smiled.
“I knew this would be difficult.”
I sat beside her.
“Why didn’t you tell us before?”
She looked at me.
“Because I needed to know something.”
“What?”
“Who loved me.”
My heart hurt.
She continued:
“I wanted to know if my children would come because they loved me…”
A pause.
“Or because they wanted what I left behind.”
I looked down.
“And Marcus?”
She sighed.
“I hoped I was wrong.”
I reached for her hand.
“I’m sorry.”
She squeezed my fingers.
“You don’t have to apologize for loving me.”
The next morning, the family gathered again.
But this time…
Marcus didn’t come alone.
He brought a lawyer.
He placed papers on the table.
“I am challenging the will.”
Everyone froze.
My mother looked disappointed.
“Marcus.”
He avoided her eyes.
“I have rights.”
The attorney looked at the documents.
Then frowned.
“This is not about the will.”
“What?”
The attorney held up one page.
“This is about fraud.”
Marcus became pale.
“What are you talking about?”
The attorney looked at my mother.
“Mrs. Harper, we found the records you requested.”
My mother nodded.
Marcus looked confused.
“What records?”
The attorney answered:
“Records proving someone attempted to alter Elena’s adoption documents thirty years ago.”
The room went silent.
My mother looked at Marcus.
And then at Robert.
Because the truth was about to reveal something much darker.
May you like
Someone had not just hidden Elena.
Someone had tried to erase her completely.
