Chapter 3 - The Brother Who Wanted Me ErasedMarcus stopped pretending.

That was the part I remembered most.

Not his anger.

Not his shouting.

The moment his face changed.

The moment he realized the truth was no longer something he could control.

For years, Marcus had believed money gave him power.

That being the oldest son made him untouchable.

But now…

The documents on the table were stronger than his confidence.

The attorney opened the file.

“Thirty years ago, Elena Bennett’s adoption records were illegally modified.”

Marcus stared.

“I don’t understand.”

My mother looked at him.

“You do.”

He looked away.

And that was when I noticed.

He wasn’t confused.

He was afraid.

The attorney continued.

“Someone paid to change the records.”

My mother whispered:

“Who?”

The attorney placed a document forward.

“The payment came from an account connected to Robert Harper.”

Everyone turned.

Robert looked shocked.

“What?”

Marcus looked at him.

“Dad?”

Robert shook his head.

“I never did this.”

The attorney frowned.

“Then someone used your account.”

My mother looked devastated.

Because the person she trusted had been involved.

But the truth was more complicated.

The attorney turned another page.

“The person who authorized the payment…”

A pause.

“Was not Robert.”

Everyone waited.

The attorney looked at Marcus.

“It was you.”

The room exploded into silence.

My brother went completely still.

I stared at him.

“No.”

Marcus shook his head.

“That’s impossible.”

The attorney placed the evidence down.

“Your fingerprints were found on the original request form.”

Marcus stepped back.

“I was a baby.”

The attorney nodded.

“Yes.”

A pause.

“Which means someone used your identity.”

My mother covered her mouth.

The room became quiet.

Because suddenly…

Marcus wasn’t the villain.

Not completely.

Someone else had been controlling everything.

Someone who wanted two children separated.

Someone who wanted Marcus to inherit everything.

The attorney looked at the final document.

“The person who filed the request…”

He paused.

“Was your father’s mother.”

My grandmother.

Everyone froze.

My mother whispered:

“No.”

The attorney nodded.

“She wanted Marcus to be the only heir.”

I looked at Marcus.

His entire world was collapsing.

He wasn’t the chosen child.

He was the manipulated child.

That evening, Marcus came to my room.

I was surprised.

He never apologized.

Not once.

“I know you hate me.”

I looked at him.

“I’m hurt.”

He nodded.

“I deserve that.”

For the first time…

He sounded like my brother.

Not my enemy.

“I spent my whole life believing I had to win.”

He looked down.

“Mom’s attention.”

“The company.”

“The inheritance.”

I stayed silent.

He whispered:

“I never realized someone else had created that fight.”

I looked at him.

“Why did you push me?”

His eyes filled with regret.

“Because I was scared.”

That answer surprised me.

He continued:

“I thought if I lost the inheritance…”

A pause.

“I lost everything.”

I sighed.

“You almost lost your family.”

He nodded.

“I know.”

The next morning, my mother gathered everyone.

She had one final announcement.

“I changed my will again.”

Marcus looked nervous.

Elena looked surprised.

My mother smiled.

“I am not giving my fortune to one child.”

The attorney opened the new document.

“My estate will be placed into a family foundation.”

Everyone looked confused.

My mother continued:

“A foundation to help children separated from their families.”

Elena started crying.

Marcus looked at his mother.

“I thought you were testing us.”

My mother nodded.

“I was.”

A pause.

“But I was also searching for something.”

“What?”

She smiled.

“A family.”

And for the first time…

Marcus reached for Elena’s hand.

Not because of money.

Not because of inheritance.

Because she was his sister.

But as everyone finally began healing…

A message arrived.

Unknown number.

Only one sentence.

“Victoria Harper, you still don’t know why Elena was taken.”

My mother’s face changed.

Because she recognized the number.

A number from thirty years ago.

A number she thought was gone forever.

She whispered:

“No…”

I looked at her.

“Mom?”

She stared at the phone.

And said:

“Your grandmother wasn’t the only person involved.”

The room became silent.

Because the biggest secret…

Was still waiting to be revealed.
