Chapter 5 - The Grandmother Behind The LiesNobody slept that night.

Not after discovering my grandmother was alive.
Not after learning she had been behind Elena’s disappearance.
The woman everyone believed was gone…
Had been watching us.
Waiting.
Planning.
My mother sat in the living room.
The strongest woman I knew looked exhausted.
“I should have known.”
I sat beside her.
“You were a child too.”
She shook her head.
“I was her daughter.”
A pause.
“I trusted her.”
Marcus stood nearby.
For once, he had nothing to say.
No argument.
No excuses.
Just guilt.
“I spent my whole life defending someone who destroyed us.”
My mother looked at him.
“Marcus.”
He looked down.
“I treated you like a business partner.”
His voice cracked.
“Not my mother.”
My mother’s eyes softened.
“But you came back.”
That was the first time I saw Marcus cry.
The next day, the police arrived.
Not because someone was arrested.
Because my mother had finally decided to stop protecting the past.
Detective Miller entered with new evidence.
“We found records connected to your grandmother.”
He placed files on the table.
“She changed her identity after leaving the country.”
Marcus stared.
“She was hiding?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
The detective looked at my mother.
“Because she knew one day the truth would come out.”
He opened another file.
“She was involved in several illegal adoption cases.”
Elena became pale.
“Other children?”
The detective nodded.
“Yes.”
My mother looked devastated.
“She didn’t just take my daughter.”
“No.”
The detective looked serious.
“She separated many families.”
That afternoon, a woman arrived at the mansion.
She looked older.
Tired.
Broken.
But I recognized her immediately.
My grandmother.
Evelyn Harper.
She smiled.
“Victoria.”
Nobody moved.
My mother stood.
“You’re alive.”
Grandmother looked around.
“Of course.”
A cold smile.
“I was always watching.”
Marcus stepped forward.
“Why?”
She looked at him.
“Because I built you.”
The words made everyone uncomfortable.
Marcus frowned.
“I’m not something you built.”
She laughed.
“You were nothing until I chose you.”
His face changed.
“You stole my sister.”
She looked at Elena.
“She was a mistake.”
Elena looked hurt.
My mother stepped between them.
“Do not speak about my daughter like that.”
Grandmother smiled.
“There she is.”
“What?”
“The emotional mother.”
She looked at my mother.
“That was always your weakness.”
My mother’s voice shook.
“No.”
She looked directly at her.
“My love was never my weakness.”
A pause.
“It was the reason I survived you.”
Grandmother looked at Marcus.
“You were supposed to inherit everything.”
Marcus shook his head.
“I don’t want it.”
She froze.
“What?”
“I don’t want money built on hurting people.”
For the first time…
My grandmother looked surprised.
Because she had spent his entire life controlling him.
And he finally chose himself.
Before police could take her away, she smiled.
“You still don’t know the final secret.”
Everyone froze.
My mother stared.
“What secret?”
Grandmother looked at Elena.
“She was not the only child.”
Silence.
My heart stopped.
“What?”
Grandmother smiled.
“Victoria had another baby.”
My mother turned pale.
“No.”
Marcus whispered:
“Another?”
Grandmother laughed.
“And that child was never lost.”
She looked at my mother.
“She was hidden.”
The room went silent.
Because suddenly…
The story was bigger than Elena.
Bigger than Marcus.
There was another child.
May you like
Another secret.
Another family member nobody knew existed.
