Chapter 3 - VANESSA HAD BEEN WORKING FOR MY DEAD WIFE BEFORE SHE MARRIED ME

When Vanessa finally spoke with her lawyer present, she admitted.
Emma had hired her.
Not as spy exactly.
As a risk consultant disguised as household administrative support.
Vanessa had previously worked for Hale Risk & Compliance.
Emma wanted someone inside household to track who accessed trust papers and why.
Daniel had been traveling constantly.
Emma did not trust Victor Sloan.
She also distrusted Daniel’s older sister? Avoid.
Keep Victor.
Vanessa discovered Victor was using related vendors to overbill Lily trust.
Around $310,000 over eighteen months.
Not enough to destroy fortune.
Enough to be fraud.
Then Emma died suddenly from cerebral aneurysm.
Independent autopsy.
No connection.
Vanessa had evidence.
She should have turned to Daniel.
Instead Victor confronted her.
He knew she had files.
He offered:
$250,000.
Then more.
And threatened to expose that she had entered home under false employment purpose without Daniel’s knowledge.
Professional misconduct.
Vanessa panicked.
Then Daniel grieving.
She stayed.
She helped with Lily.
She became important.
Then relationship.
Did Victor instruct her to marry Daniel?
Vanessa said:
“No.”
Good.
“That was me.”
Then:
“Did he encourage?”
“Yes.”
“He said being close to you would protect both of us.”
There.
Then money and marriage intertwined.
She loved Daniel eventually.
Still hiding.
Then Victor proposed new scheme after seeing Emma’s old trust language.
Lily’s trust allowed paid care coordinator if she entered therapeutic placement.
Victor wanted control/fees.
Vanessa resented parenting Lily.
She agreed.
Then Nathan contacted.
He had discovered some activity.
Pretended willing to help to gather proof of Victor.
Vanessa thought Nathan wanted his own share.
So her “money is ours” referred to her and Nathan.
Nathan played along.
But he did not anticipate physical abuse.
He had told her:
“Placement record, not a missing child.”
Meaning use paperwork, not harm.
Still unethical.
He was helping manufacture? He claimed he was baiting.
Detective asked:
“Did you create documents?”
He admitted drafting one hypothetical care structure for the sting.
Bad.
Then:
“Did you tell her Lily needed actual treatment?”
“No.”
“Did you alert her father?”
“No.”
That made him complicit in dangerous secrecy.
Then he said:
“I thought I could expose Victor without tipping him.”
Detective:
“You were using a three-year-old as an investigative variable.”
Nathan closed eyes.
“Yes.”
That line stayed.
Then the transfer.
Controlled escrow.
Nathan froze funds immediately after receiving.
Bank confirmed.
No loss.
But initial authorization forged.
Who forged?
Vanessa.
She photographed my signature from trust document.
Victor Sloan helped create digital authorization.
There.
Then Victor.
Police search.
He had texts with Vanessa.
V: Daniel is back Friday.
Sloan: Get intake papers signed before then.
V: Lily won’t cooperate.
Sloan: Then document behavior.
Then:
V: She keeps crying for Daniel.
Sloan: Good. Separation anxiety supports placement.
Ugly.
Then washing machine incident.
Was it to create behavior? Yes.
Lily had spilled finger paint on a dress.
Vanessa dragged her to laundry room.
Wanted her to scream.
Camera captured.
Then she planned to send clip to evaluator as “extreme reaction to routine hygiene.”
There.
She deliberately provoked.
Then the line:
“No one will believe a little girl.”
That was about credibility.
Then prior incidents.
Lily said Vanessa made her stand alone in pantry.
Took stuffed rabbit.
Turned lights off briefly.
No severe injury.
But emotional abuse.
Then Daniel confronted himself.
Lily had told him.
Video calls:
“Vanessa makes me go quiet room.”
He assumed timeout.
“Vanessa says Bunny is bad.”
He laughed.
“Listen to Mommy.”
Mommy.
Lily called Vanessa Mommy because adults encouraged after marriage.
Emma died when Lily was one? Lily now three, two years ago. Yes.
Lily barely remembered Emma directly, but photos.
Then Daniel’s failure:
He let Vanessa become sole translator.
Again.
Then Emma’s hidden brother.
Why hidden?
Family shame.
Nathan had no inheritance rights.
Emma had tried to build relationship.
He loved Lily from distance.
But his secrecy became harm too.
Daniel said:
“You could have walked into my office.”
Nathan:
“You didn’t know I existed.”
“Exactly.”
Then:
“You decided for Emma that her secret mattered more than my daughter.”
May you like
Nathan had no answer.
Good.
