Chapter 11 - THE MAN WHO BUILT A NEW IDENTITY

We found Daniel Reed's trail within forty-eight hours.
He had changed his name.
Changed his appearance.
Moved between countries.
Created several companies.
And built a fortune using money stolen from the Bennett and Reed families.
The most disturbing discovery was that Daniel had been working with Helen.
Helen hadn't been acting alone.
She had been reporting to him.
Vanessa had been hired through one of his shell companies.
The wedding attack had been designed to force me out of the trust.
But Daniel had another reason.
He needed Michael.
Michael was the legal heir to his original fortune.
If Michael died without children, the assets would eventually revert to a foundation controlled by Daniel.
Michael stared at the documents.
“So he wants me alive only because of the inheritance.”
“Yes,” Jonathan said.
I looked at my brother.
“He doesn't get you.”
Michael looked at me.
“You don't have to protect me.”
“I know.”
“But you will.”
“Yes.”
He smiled faintly.
“Then I guess I finally have a sister.”
I smiled.
“Yes.”
For the first time, it felt real.
Not because of blood.
Because we had chosen each other.
Then my father entered.
“We found Daniel.”
Everyone turned.
“Where?”
“Chicago.”
Jonathan immediately began preparing the legal documents.
Andrew looked at me.
“I'm coming.”
I stared at him.
“Why?”
“Because I owe you.”
“You owe me nothing.”
“I owe you the truth.”
I studied his face.
He wasn't asking for forgiveness.
He wasn't asking to come back.
He simply wanted to help.
I nodded.
“Then come.”
Daniel Reed was waiting in a private office.
He was older than the photographs.
Gray hair.
Expensive suit.
Calm eyes.
When Michael entered, Daniel stood.
“My son.”
Michael froze.
“You knew who I was?”
“Yes.”
“Then why did you abandon me?”
Daniel looked at him.
“I didn't abandon you.”
“You let me believe my father was dead.”
“You were safer without me.”
“You stole my life.”
Daniel's expression hardened.
“I built your future.”
Michael laughed.
“You built your fortune.”
Daniel looked at me.
“And you must be Lily.”
I didn't answer.
“You have your mother's eyes.”
I stepped closer.
“You killed her.”
“No.”
“You were involved.”
“Yes.”
My stomach tightened.
He admitted it without hesitation.
“What did you do?”
“I paid Dr. Reed to alter her records.”
“Why?”
“She discovered the accounts.”
“What accounts?”
“The money I had taken.”
I stared.
“You stole from her.”
“I borrowed.”
“Millions?”
“It was an investment.”
Michael stepped forward.
“You destroyed our family.”
Daniel looked at him.
“Families destroy themselves.”
I looked at Jonathan.
“Record this.”
Jonathan lifted his phone.
Daniel smiled.
“You think a recording will convict me?”
“No.”
I opened the folder.
“We have bank records.”
His smile disappeared.
“Security footage.”
His face changed.
“Witness statements.”
He looked at Michael.
“And your own son.”
Daniel suddenly stood.
“You don't understand the power you're challenging.”
I looked directly at him.
“You don't understand what my mother left me.”
Then I placed the original trust on the desk.
Daniel read it.
His face went pale.
“You can't activate this.”
“It was activated the moment you tried to interfere.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
I pointed at the final clause.
“Any attempt to manipulate an heir triggers an automatic transfer.”
Daniel stared.
“To whom?”
I smiled.
“Charity.”
His entire fortune was now at risk.
Everything he had stolen.
Everything he had built.
Everything he had protected.
Could disappear.
He looked at Michael.
“You would destroy your own inheritance?”
Michael shook his head.
“No.”
May you like
He looked at me.
“I would destroy your stolen inheritance.”
