Chapter 3: The Voice Inside the Necklace

The recording ended with a soft crackle.

For three seconds, nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

The wedding guests stood frozen beneath the bright white canopy, surrounded by flowers and expensive decorations that suddenly felt meaningless.

Because everyone had heard it.

Everyone had heard Lena’s voice.

A woman who was supposed to be gone.

A woman Celeste claimed was dead.

Julian stared at the small silver pendant hanging from Amara’s neck.

His hands were shaking.

Not because he was afraid.

Because he had spent twelve years believing he would never hear that voice again.

The voice that used to wake him up with morning coffee.

The voice that used to tell him he was working too hard.

The voice that once promised him they would always protect each other.

And now it had returned from a tiny piece of silver around a child’s neck.

“Play it again,” Julian whispered.

Nobody answered.

“Amara,” he said gently, kneeling down.

“Can you play it again?””

The little girl looked frightened.

She touched the pendant.

“I don’t know how.””

Julian carefully examined it.

The small compartment had already closed.

A hidden mechanism.

Something designed to stay protected.

Something Lena had planned.

Celeste suddenly stepped forward.

“Give me that.””

Julian looked up sharply.

“No.””

Her expression changed.

“Julian, you don’t understand what you’re dealing with.””

“That’s exactly the problem,” he replied.

“I don’t understand.””

Celeste lowered her voice.

“Not here.””

Julian stood.

“You had twelve years to tell me.””

Her face tightened.

The guests were still watching.

Some were recording with their phones.

Some were whispering.

The perfect wedding reception had transformed into the biggest scandal anyone there had ever witnessed.

The bride’s family was standing in silence.

The groom looked completely confused.

And Julian, one of the most powerful men in the city, looked like a man whose entire past had just been ripped open.

Celeste looked around.

“Everyone needs to leave.””

Nobody moved.

Julian laughed once.

Not because anything was funny.

Because he couldn’t believe she still thought she was in control.

“You don’t give orders anymore.””

Her eyes narrowed.

“You have no idea what Lena did.””

Julian stepped closer.

“Then tell me.””

Celeste looked at Amara.

The little girl immediately held onto Julian’s jacket.

That small movement seemed to affect him more than any accusation could.

Because Amara was afraid of Celeste.

And Julian wanted to know why.

“What did Lena do?”” he asked.

Celeste swallowed.

“She stole something.””

The crowd reacted instantly.

A few guests gasped.

Julian’s expression remained cold.

“What?””

“She found information she wasn’t supposed to find.””

“What information?””

Celeste looked away.

“I can’t talk about this here.””

Julian’s voice dropped.

“You mean you won’t.””

Before Celeste could answer, another voice interrupted.

“Julian?””

Everyone turned.

A woman in an elegant cream dress walked toward them.

She was the bride’s mother, Evelyn.

She looked uncomfortable and embarrassed.

“Maybe we should move this conversation inside.””

Julian didn’t even look at her.

“No.””

“Julian—”

“No.””

The single word stopped her.

He turned toward the guests.

“I spent twelve years wondering what happened to someone I cared about.””

His voice carried across the garden.

“I was told she left. I was told she abandoned everyone who loved her.””

He looked at Celeste.

“But apparently, the person who knew the truth was standing ten feet away from me this entire time.””

Celeste’s face hardened.

“You think I wanted this?””

Julian stared at her.

“I think you wanted control.””

For the first time, Celeste looked hurt.

Only for a moment.

Then the mask returned.

“You always thought you could save everyone.””

Julian’s eyes narrowed.

“And you always thought you could decide who deserved saving.””

The words hit her.

Because they were true.

Amara quietly tugged on Julian’s sleeve.

“Mr. Julian?””

He looked down.

“Yes?””

“Is my mom really gone?””

The question broke through his anger.

The entire scene changed.

Because behind the mystery, behind the lies, behind the betrayal…

There was a child who only wanted her mother back.

Julian crouched.

“I don’t know.””

Amara looked down.

“But I promise I’ll find out.””

The little girl studied his face.

“You promise?””

“I promise.””

For the first time that day, Amara smiled.

A tiny smile.

But enough.

Julian stood again.

“Now,” he said, looking at Celeste, “we’re going somewhere private.””

Celeste hesitated.

Then she nodded.

“Fine.””

They moved into the empty bridal suite inside the mansion beside the garden.

Only three people entered.

Julian.

Celeste.

And Amara.

The door closed behind them.

The noise of the wedding disappeared.

Inside the room, everything was still perfect.

The flowers.

The mirrors.

The white decorations.

A room designed for happiness.

But there was no happiness left.

Julian placed the pendant on the table.

“Explain.””

Celeste remained standing.

“I can’t.””

Julian stared at her.

“You can.””

“No.””

“Why?””

“Because if I tell you, you’ll hate me.””

Julian’s expression didn’t change.

“You already know what I think of you.””

Celeste looked at Amara.

The little girl sat quietly on the sofa, eating the cake Julian gave her.

That small detail seemed to bother Celeste.

“You really don’t remember, do you?””

Julian frowned.

“Remember what?””

“Lena wasn’t always honest.””

His jaw tightened.

“Careful.””

“I’m serious.””

“So am I.””

Celeste walked toward the window.

“She changed after she found out about the company.””

“What about the company?””

Celeste hesitated.

Julian noticed.

“Tell me.””

She looked back.

“Your father’s company wasn’t as clean as everyone believed.””

The room went silent.

Julian’s father had built their family empire from nothing.

He was considered a legend.

A man who created jobs.

A man who donated millions.

A man everyone respected.

“You’re lying.””

Celeste shook her head.

“Lena found documents.””

“What documents?””

“Proof that money was being moved illegally.””

Julian stared at her.

“That’s impossible.””

“She thought the same thing.””

Celeste’s voice softened.

“She believed she could expose it.””

Julian looked at the pendant.

“And you stopped her?””

Celeste didn’t answer.

He stepped closer.

“Did you stop her?””

Her silence was louder than a confession.

Julian’s face changed.

“Where is Lena?””

Celeste looked down.

“I told you.””

“You said she died.””

“She did.””

“When?””

Celeste’s eyes filled slightly.

“Three weeks ago.””

Julian froze.

Amara stopped eating.

Three weeks.

The same timeline.

Julian looked at Celeste.

“If Lena died three weeks ago, why did nobody tell me?””

Celeste whispered:

“Because she didn’t want you involved.””

Julian shook his head.

“No.””

“She knew they would come after you.””

“Who?””

Celeste didn’t answer.

Julian’s patience disappeared.

“WHO?””

The room shook with his voice.

Amara jumped.

Julian immediately softened.

“Sorry.””

He looked at her.

“I’m sorry.””

Then he turned back.

Celeste finally spoke.

“The people who killed her.””

The words landed heavily.

Julian stared.

“You said she was sick.””

Celeste closed her eyes.

“I lied.””

“Why?””

“Because Lena made me promise.””

Julian laughed bitterly.

“A promise to protect her daughter?””

Celeste looked at Amara.

“No.””

She paused.

“A promise to protect you.””

Julian stopped.

“What?””

Celeste reached into her purse.

Her hand trembled as she pulled out an old envelope.

She placed it on the table.

Julian looked at it.

His name was written across the front.

In Lena’s handwriting.

His heart stopped.

“How long have you had this?””

Celeste looked away.

“Twelve years.””

Julian stared at the envelope.

“Twelve years?””

“Yes.””

“Why didn’t you give it to me?””

Celeste’s eyes filled with regret.

“Because Lena told me not to.””

Julian picked up the envelope.

His fingers shook as he opened it.

Inside was a single piece of paper.

Only one sentence was written.

He recognized the handwriting immediately.

*Julian, if you are reading this, it means Celeste finally failed to keep my daughter away from you.*

He stopped breathing.

He read the next line.

And his entire world changed.

*The girl you are protecting is not just my daughter. She is yours.*

Julian dropped the letter.

The room went completely silent.

Amara looked up.

Celeste closed her eyes.

May you like

Because she knew the truth had finally arrived.

And Julian had just discovered the secret everyone had spent twelve years hiding.
