Chapter 8 - The Truth My Mother Took To Her GraveAfter Richard’s arrest, everyone thought the nightmare was over.

But his final words stayed with me.
Why did my mother hide the hotel?
Why did she make me believe we had nothing?
Why did she leave me without knowing my own family?
I needed answers.
So I went back to my mother’s old house.
The place where my childhood began.
Lily came with me.
Together, we searched through old belongings.
Letters.
Photographs.
Memories.
Then Lily found something.
A hidden box.
Inside was a letter.
My mother’s handwriting.
“Mia and Lily.”
My hands shook.
She had written both our names.
“I know one day you may discover the truth.”
I continued reading.
“I need you to understand something.”
“The hotel was never hidden because I was ashamed.”
“It was hidden because I was afraid.”
The letter explained everything.
After my grandfather died, Richard began trying to control the family.
He believed the hotel should belong to him.
He threatened my mother.
He threatened Lily.
He threatened anyone who stood against him.
My mother chose distance.
She chose a quiet life.
Because she believed love was safer than wealth.
Then came the final sentence.
“I did not want my daughters to inherit my battles.”
A tear fell.
“I wanted them to inherit my courage.”
Lily touched my hand.
“She loved us.”
I nodded.
“She always did.”
But there was another document inside the box.
A document my mother never saw.
A DNA report.
And a name.
My grandfather’s handwriting.
“The third Carter heir.”
I looked at Lily.
“What does this mean?”
She shook her head.
“I don’t know.”
We returned to the hotel.
Thomas looked at the document.
And immediately became pale.
“Mia…”
“What?”
He took a deep breath.
“There was another child.”
My heart stopped.
“Another?”
Thomas nodded.
“Your grandfather had one more secret.”
Lily whispered:
“How many secrets did this family have?”
Thomas looked at us.
“This one was different.”
May you like
“Why?”
“Because this child was the reason your grandfather created the emergency heir clause.”
