Chapter 6: The Father Who Never Left

Tiana didn’t sleep.

The message remained open on her phone all night.

*Meet me tomorrow if you want to know why I left you.*

She read it hundreds of times.

Each time, the same question returned.

How?

How could her father send a message?

How could Adrian Reed, the man everyone believed had vanished three years ago, suddenly appear?

She sat on the edge of her bed as the first light of morning entered through the curtains.

For years, she had imagined this moment.

The moment her father would come back.

But in every version, she imagined running toward him.

Not standing in her bedroom wondering whether she should trust him.

Her father had been her hero.

Then he became a mystery.

Now he was becoming a question.

The meeting place was an abandoned train station outside the city.

A place where almost nobody went anymore.

Tiana arrived early.

She always arrived early.

Training had taught her that.

Preparation created control.

But today, control felt impossible.

Every sound made her turn.

Every shadow made her wonder.

At noon, footsteps approached.

She froze.

A man stepped out from behind an old platform.

Older.

Thinner.

With tired eyes and a face she recognized instantly.

Her breath disappeared.

“Dad?””

The word came out before she could stop it.

Adrian Reed stopped.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Three years disappeared.

The memories.

The anger.

The pain.

All of it stood between them.

“Tiana.””

His voice broke.

That hurt more than she expected.

Because it sounded like a father who had missed his daughter.

Not a stranger.

Not a criminal.

Not someone who abandoned her.

She wanted to run to him.

She wanted to hit him.

Instead, she stood still.

“Why?””

One word.

But it carried three years of pain.

Adrian looked down.

“I knew you would ask that.””

“Then answer.””

He nodded slowly.

“I left because staying would have put you in danger.””

Tiana laughed bitterly.

“Do you know what danger felt like?””

He looked at her.

“Every day wondering if you were coming back?””

His face changed.

“I know.””

“No, you don’t.””

Her voice shook.

“You weren’t there.””

Adrian closed his eyes.

“I know.””

“You missed birthdays.””

“I know.””

“You missed every competition.””

“I watched.””

That stopped her.

“What?””

He looked at her.

“I watched every one.””

Her expression changed.

“You were there?””

“Not physically.””

His voice became quiet.

“I was always nearby.””

The anger returned.

“Then why didn’t you come home?””

Adrian had no answer.

And that hurt.

They sat on an old bench near the abandoned tracks.

For several minutes, neither spoke.

Finally, Adrian said:

“Your mother was the reason everything started.””

Tiana looked at him.

“You said her name before.””

He nodded.

“Your mother discovered something.””

“What?””

“The organization controlling martial arts competitions.””

Tiana remembered Daniel’s words.

The manipulation.

The money.

The corruption.

“My mother knew?””

“Yes.””

“Why?””

Adrian looked at the ground.

“Because her father was involved.””

Tiana went quiet.

Her grandfather.

The man she barely remembered.

“He built it?””

“Not alone.””

“Who helped him?””

Adrian looked at her.

“People you already met.””

Her stomach tightened.

“Who?””

“Daniel.””

She froze.

“Coach Daniel?””

“He helped create the system.””

“No.””

The answer came instantly.

Too quickly.

Adrian noticed.

“You trust him.””

“He protected me.””

“He did.””

That confused her.

“He protected you because he loved you.””

“Then why are you blaming him?””

“I’m not.””

Adrian looked away.

“I’m saying love doesn’t stop people from making mistakes.””

Tiana thought about Daniel.

The secrets.

The lies.

The regret.

“Why did he write your name?””

Adrian became silent.

Then he answered.

“Because he knew the truth.””

“What truth?””

“That I didn’t disappear.””

Tiana stared.

“What?””

“I was forced to leave.””

“By who?””

Adrian looked toward the empty tracks.

“Someone inside the organization.””

“Who?””

He hesitated.

Then said:

“Someone you know.””

Her heart dropped.

“Who?””

Before he could answer, a car engine sounded nearby.

Adrian’s expression changed.

“Someone followed you.””

Tiana turned.

A black vehicle stopped near the station.

Two men stepped out.

Adrian immediately stood.

“Run.””

She looked at him.

“What?””

“Run.””

“No.””

His eyes sharpened.

“Tiana.””

She had never heard him use that voice before.

The voice of a father.

The voice of a fighter.

“Trust me.””

The men approached.

Adrian stepped forward.

Tiana moved beside him.

“I’m not leaving you again.””

For a moment, Adrian looked at her.

Then he smiled sadly.

“You really are my daughter.””

The first man attacked.

Tiana reacted instantly.

Years of training took over.

She blocked.

Moved.

Countered.

But she stopped herself before striking too hard.

She wasn’t in a tournament.

This wasn’t about winning.

It was about survival.

Adrian watched.

Pride appeared briefly on his face.

“You still control your movements.””

Tiana pushed the attacker away.

“Dad, now is not the time.””

The second man moved toward Adrian.

Tiana stepped in.

A quick movement.

A controlled throw.

The man hit the ground.

Adrian looked impressed.

“You’ve improved.””

She looked at him.

“I had a good teacher.””

The words were meant for Daniel.

But Adrian understood.

The fight ended quickly.

The men escaped before anyone could identify them.

Tiana looked at her father.

“Who were they?””

“People who want the past to stay buried.””

“Because of the truth?””

“Yes.””

“What truth?””

Adrian looked at her.

“The truth about your mother.””

That evening, Adrian took her to a small hidden apartment.

It was simple.

A bed.

A table.

A few books.

Nothing that looked like a place where someone had been hiding for three years.

Tiana looked around.

“You lived here?””

“Yes.””

“Alone?””

“Yes.””

She hated how much that hurt.

“You could have called.””

“I wanted to.””

“Then why didn’t you?””

Adrian looked at her.

“Because every phone call could be tracked.””

“Every message?””

“Yes.””

She held up her phone.

“So this wasn’t safe?””

“No.””

“Then why send it?””

“Because I knew the time had come.””

Tiana frowned.

“What changed?””

Adrian walked to a locked drawer.

He opened it.

Inside was a small notebook.

Her father handed it to her.

“This belonged to your mother.””

Tiana opened it.

The first page contained a name.

Not her mother’s.

Not her grandfather’s.

Someone else’s.

A name she recognized.

Someone she had seen every day.

Her hand froze.

“What is this?””

Adrian’s face became serious.

“This is why I left.””

She looked at him.

“This person?””

He nodded.

“Yes.””

“Why would my mother write about them?””

Adrian looked at the notebook.

“Because your mother discovered they were the one controlling everything.””

Tiana turned the page.

And the final entry made her blood run cold.

The handwriting was shaky.

Like it had been written in fear.

*If anything happens to me, tell Tiana the truth. The person she trusts most is the person who betrayed us.*

Tiana stopped breathing.

Not because of the words.

Because underneath the message was a signature.

Her mother’s.

And a date.

The day before she died.

Adrian watched her carefully.

“Tiana.””

She looked up.

“Who was it?””

Her father didn’t answer immediately.

Then he whispered:

“The person who raised you after I disappeared.””

Tiana’s hands went cold.

Because only one person fit those words.

The person who stayed.

The person who trained her.

The person she trusted.

Coach Daniel.

Then her phone rang.

She looked at the screen.

A message from Daniel.

*I know you found your father.*

A second message appeared.

*Come to the gym alone. We need to talk before he tells you everything.*

Tiana stared at the words.

Adrian looked at the phone.

His face changed.

“Don’t go.””

She looked at him.

“Why?””

His voice was barely a whisper.

“Because Daniel already knows you know the truth.””

A pause.

May you like

Then Adrian said the one thing Tiana feared most.

“And he’s been waiting for you to come back.””
