Chapter 14 - MY FATHER FINALLY TOLD THE SCHOOL WHO I WASN’TThe next year, incoming students learned I was Dad’s daughter immediately.

We decided secrecy had become impractical.
At orientation, Dad introduced himself.
Then he said:
“My daughter attends Crestwood.”
Several people looked at me.
I wanted to disappear.
Then Dad added:
“That fact does not give her special academic standing, special disciplinary protection, or authority over anyone here.”
I smiled.
Then:
“And being related to donors, trustees, faculty, administrators, or me does not place any student above school conduct rules.”
Parents became very quiet.
Good.
Afterward, I told him:
“That was subtle.”
“I’m known for subtlety.”
“No.”
“Fair.”
We laughed.
The secret was gone.
