Chapter 6 - WHY BROOKE CHOSE MEI eventually learned Brooke had chosen me for a simple reason.

I didn’t react correctly.
Before Crestwood, she targeted people who wanted access to her social circle.
They tolerated jokes.
Laughed along.
Tried harder.
I didn’t.
When she mocked my sweater, I wore it again.
When she called my lunch cheap, I kept bringing it.
When she asked what my father did, I said:
“He works in education.”
True.
Apparently my refusal to explain myself felt like superiority.
At the disciplinary hearing, Brooke said:
“She acted like she was better than everyone.”
Dr. Warren asked:
“How?”
“She never cared what people thought.”
I almost laughed when I read the summary.
That was the offense.
Not worshipping the hierarchy.
Brooke believed wealth created a game.
I refused to play.
So she tried to force me into the role she understood.
Poor girl.
Embarrassed girl.
May you like
Outsider.
Then the principal walked in and ruined the script.
