Chapter 13 - THE SECOND POOL PARTY

A year after the night my mother was pushed into the pool, we held another gathering.

Not a luxury party.

No celebrities.

No champagne towers.

No people pretending to be important.

It was a small family celebration.

My mother sat near the garden.

Lucas grilled food.

Arthur played with the children.

I stood beside the pool.

My mother walked toward me.

“You remember that night?”

I smiled.

“How could I forget?”

She laughed.

“You jumped into the pool fully dressed.”

“I wasn't thinking.”

“You never did.”

“I was trying to save you.”

“I know.”

She touched my arm.

“You always were a good son.”

I looked at her.

“I learned from you.”

She shook her head.

“No.”

She smiled.

“You learned from your mistakes.”

I laughed.

“That too.”

Then Lucas appeared.

“Dinner's ready.”

Mom smiled.

“Let's go.”

We walked together.

No one was watching.

No cameras.

No reporters.

No investors.

May you like

Just family.

And that felt richer than anything.
