Chapter 8 - THE GRANDFATHER WHO CONTROLLED EVERYTHING

My grandfather stepped into the vault.
He was older than I remembered.
But his eyes were sharp.
Cold.
He looked at me.
“You look like your father.”
I stared at him.
“You destroyed his life.”
“I built his life.”
“You killed people.”
His expression didn't change.
“Business has consequences.”
Lucas stepped forward.
“You killed my mother.”
My grandfather looked at him.
“I protected the family.”
“You never even admitted I existed.”
“You were a weakness.”
Lucas clenched his fists.
I stepped between them.
“You don't get to call people weaknesses.”
My grandfather laughed.
“You still think morality matters.”
“Yes.”
“That is why you'll lose.”
He pointed toward the documents.
“Give me the deed.”
“No.”
“You don't understand what you own.”
“I understand exactly what I own.”
“You own nothing.”
I smiled.
“That's the point.”
His expression changed.
“The trust belongs to the foundation.”
“Yes.”
“You can't sell it.”
“I don't want to.”
“You can't control it.”
“I don't need to.”
He stared at me.
Then I held up the trust agreement.
“You spent your entire life trying to own something that was never yours.”
My grandfather's face hardened.
“You're a fool.”
“No.”
I looked at Lucas.
“We're the people Dad trusted.”
My grandfather suddenly moved toward the documents.
Arthur stepped between us.
“Don't.”
My grandfather stopped.
Police entered behind him.
He looked around.
“You think this ends here?”
I answered:
“Yes.”
He smiled.
“You'll discover that your father left more enemies than you know.”
The police arrested him.
As they led him away, he looked at me.
“You'll come looking for me.”
I shook my head.
“No.”
He frowned.
“I don't need anything from you.”
That was the first time I saw fear in his eyes.
The next morning, the trust documents were authenticated.
The foundation was officially protected.
The recovered assets were returned.
The illegal accounts were frozen.
My grandfather faced multiple charges.
Thomas cooperated with prosecutors.
Vanessa was charged for financial crimes and conspiracy.

But I still had one unfinished matter.
