David Reynolds.
Thomas Reynolds.
Basis:
“Progressive cognitive decline, paranoia, financial irresponsibility, and vulnerability to third-party influence.”
Third-party influence meant Emily.
They had built the petition carefully.
Forgotten appointments.
Minor banking errors.
Mom repeating questions.
Grief after Dad.
Normal aging transformed into a legal narrative of incapacity.
Then came the medical affidavit.
Dr. Raymond Fletcher.
A geriatric specialist.
He stated that based on “clinical review” Margaret likely lacked capacity to manage complex financial matters.
I asked Mom:
“Have you met him?”
“No.”
Eleanor’s face hardened.
He had never examined her.
He reviewed records supplied by David and Thomas.
Selected records.
Not her current cognitive evaluations.
Not the neurologist report showing normal age-related memory changes.
Only whatever made their story work.
Police became involved after that.
So did Mom’s independent physician.
A court-ordered evaluation found her fully competent.
David claimed the guardianship petition was precautionary.
Thomas called it responsible.
The recorder said otherwise.
One audio clip:
David:
“If she refuses again, guardianship gets us control.”
Thomas:
“Fletcher will support it.”
Mom:
“I know what you’re doing.”
David:
“Then make this easy.”
That recording ended any illusion.
