Chapter 7 - THE BETRAYAL INSIDE STERLING GLOBALRichard thought the worst was over.

He was wrong.

Because betrayal was never most painful when it came from enemies.

It was most painful when it came from people you trusted.

The next morning, Richard entered Sterling Global Holdings.

The building had always represented everything he created.

Today…

It felt different.

Every person walking past him could be hiding something.

His assistant Michael met him near the elevator.

“We found the connection.”

Richard looked at him.

“Who?”

Michael handed him a folder.

Richard opened it.

And froze.

The name on the documents:

Andrew Sterling.

His own cousin.

The man who had worked beside him for twelve years.

The man who attended family dinners.

The man who held Sophie after Emma died.

Richard couldn’t speak.

“No.”

Michael looked serious.

“I wish I was wrong.”

Andrew had been secretly transferring company funds.

Millions.

Small amounts.

Carefully hidden.

But the pattern was clear.

And every transfer eventually connected to Jonathan Cross.

Richard closed the folder.

“How long?”

“Two years.”

Two years.

The same time Vanessa entered his life.

Richard finally understood.

It was never about one person.

It was a plan.

A carefully designed plan.

Vanessa entered the family.

Andrew gave her information.

Jonathan provided money.

And Sophie’s inheritance was the final target.

That afternoon, Richard returned home.

Sophie was sitting at the table coloring.

She looked up.

“Daddy?”

He smiled.

“Yes?”

“Are you okay?”

The question surprised him.

Because she was six.

But she noticed everything.

Richard sat beside her.

“I’m okay.”

She looked at him.

“Are bad people scary?”

Richard thought carefully.

“Sometimes.”

“Are they always mean?”

He shook his head.

“No.”

“Then how do you know?”

Richard smiled sadly.

“You look at what they do, not what they say.”

Sophie nodded.

Then she handed him a drawing.

It was the same picture as before.

But this time…

There were four people.

Richard.

Sophie.

Emma.

And a heart above them.

“What’s the heart?”

Sophie smiled.

“That’s Mommy.”

Richard hugged her.

And for the first time in weeks…

He felt hope.

Because Vanessa had tried to take away Sophie’s confidence.

But she failed.

Because love had already built something stronger.

That night, Richard received one final message.

Unknown number.

“You think Vanessa was the problem?”

“You have no idea who started this.”

Then another message appeared.

A photograph.

Richard opened it.

And his blood ran cold.

It was Emma.

Standing beside someone.

Someone Richard recognized.

Someone he thought was innocent.

His own father.

The caption read:

“Ask your family why Emma was really afraid.”

Richard stared at the image.

Because suddenly…

The secret was bigger than Vanessa.

Bigger than Jonathan.

Bigger than the company.

The truth went back generations.

And Richard realized:

May you like

He wasn’t just uncovering a betrayal.

He was uncovering a family history built on lies.
