Chapter 7 - VANESSA HAD GONE TO THE HOSPITAL LOOKING FOR A PASSWORDDuring one rehabilitation visit, Emily later remembered Vanessa asking:
“Do you remember where you saved the donor report?”
At the time Emily could barely remember what month it was.
Vanessa told staff she was a close family friend.
Technically true historically.
She sat beside Emily.
Held her hand.
Then repeated questions.
Laptop.
Cloud drive.
Password.
Emily did not know.
Then Vanessa changed strategy.
She told Emily:
“Ryan has moved on.”
False then.
“He thinks Lily needs stability without you.”
No evidence.
“You should let him build a new life.”
Manipulative.
Why?
If Emily believed she had lost her family, Vanessa hoped she would sign a broad separation and property acknowledgment prepared by an attorney Vanessa knew.
That could also reduce Emily’s access to some shared devices where the donor records might be stored.
The plan was not sophisticated.
