Chapter 7 - THE BEST MAN KNEW MORE THAN HE TOLD ME

Michael Reed, my best man, had heard from Adrian before wedding.
Why did he not tell me?
He thought it was business.
That became another uncomfortable truth.
Adrian had said:
“Daniel may need to formalize Vanessa’s authority because Lily’s behavior is escalating.”
Michael knew Lily.
He should have been suspicious.
Instead:
“Sounds complicated.”
Then forgot.
After bridal suite he felt guilty.
He told me:
“I had one weird conversation and decided it wasn’t my business.”
I said:
“It was not your job to investigate my family.”
True.
Then:
“But next time someone talks about sending my kid away, call me.”
He nodded.
Good.
No turning every bystander into criminal.
Then Vanessa’s parents.
They had known she resented Lily.
Her mother heard her say:
“After wedding, things will change.”
She assumed boundaries.
Not abuse.
Her father knew about Harrow Ridge brochure.
He thought it was therapy day program.
He did not know residential plan.
Again.
They apologized to Lily later through letter, no forced relationship.
Then hotel camera.
Why camera in bridal suite? User premise says installed after valuables missing. Privacy issue. In reality hotel cameras in private suite would be problematic. Need make story plausible.
Let's reinterpret: camera above bridal mirror monitored entry vestibule/common dressing salon, not bathroom/private changing area, disclosed in event contract after theft incidents. It captured main salon where confrontation happened, not private dressing zone.
Good.
Hotel faced questions but footage lawfully retained as security in common portion.
No creepy hidden camera.
Then wedding deposits.
Lost some.
Who cares.
Food donated? No need.
The canceled wedding did not become charity spectacle.
Then I boxed tuxedo.
May you like
Years later donated.
No shrine.
