Chapter 8 - LILY LEARNED WHAT THE TRUST WAS REALLY FOR

At eighteen, Samantha sat with Lily.

Showed numbers.

Trust approximately $16 million.

Lily said:

“That’s disgusting.”

Samantha laughed.

“Money is not moral.”

Then:

“It’s responsibility.”

Lily learned.

Emma had designed trust to pay education, housing, health, and eventually give Lily increasing control.

Not make her company heir.

No business throne.

Then Lily asked:

“Could Vanessa really have taken it?”

“No.”

Samantha explained.

“She could have gained paid authority and influenced distributions if court accepted her role. But she could not legally empty it at will.”

Good.

No magical theft.

Then:

“So why all that?”

“Control can be profitable even without owning principal.”

Lily understood.

Then she kept independent co-trustee when eligible.

“Mom was right.”

Then looked at me.

“And Dad signs things too fast.”

I deserved.

Then career.

Lily studied environmental design.

Not trust law.

No trauma career requirement.

She funded one grief-counseling scholarship years later but did not turn identity into cause.

Then Samantha retired.

Lily thanked her:

“For being annoying.”

Samantha smiled.

May you like

“Your mother paid me to be annoying.”

Nice.
