Chapter 4: The Secret Someone Wanted Buried
Darius moved quickly.
The calm security officer from earlier was gone.
Now he was focused.
Alert.
He guided everyone away from the center of the reception floor while the guests whispered among themselves.
Amara stayed close.
She refused to let go of the torn photograph.
Celeste watched her quietly.
There was something painful in her eyes.
Something like regret.
“Darius: I need everyone who was near the gift table to stay where they are.””
The guests exchanged confused looks.
The groom frowned.
“Are you saying someone planted something?””
Darius didn’t answer.
Not yet.
He looked at Celeste.
“Did you notice anything strange before this happened?””
Celeste hesitated.
Then she looked at Amara.
“I received a message earlier.””
Darius turned.
“What message?””
Celeste reached into her phone.
Her fingers trembled.
“A warning.””
She unlocked the screen.
The message was simple.
One sentence.
“Stop looking for the past.””
Darius stared at it.
“When did you get this?””
“Ten minutes before the ceremony.””
“And you didn’t tell anyone?””
Celeste shook her head.
“I thought it was a threat from someone trying to ruin the wedding.””
Amara looked up.
“Someone knew about my mom?””
Celeste looked at her.
“Yes.””
The answer frightened them both.
Darius walked toward the security monitor station.
The wedding hall cameras showed the reception from different angles.
He replayed the footage.
Guests dancing.
Servers walking.
Celeste placing her purse beside her chair.
Then something appeared.
A person moving through the crowd.
Not a guest.
Not a server.
Someone wearing a dark jacket.
The face wasn’t visible.
But the person stopped beside Celeste’s purse.
Darius paused the video.
The room went quiet.
“Who is that?”” the groom asked.
Nobody answered.
Darius zoomed in.
The person reached into the purse.
Then placed something inside.
The second half of the photograph.
Amara covered her mouth.
“So someone put it there.””
Darius nodded.
“Yes.””
Celeste looked relieved for only a second.
Then she became scared again.
“Why?””
Nobody had an answer.
Darius continued watching.
The person turned slightly.
A small detail appeared.
A ring.
A silver ring with a unique symbol.
Celeste saw it.
And immediately stepped back.
“No.””
Darius looked at her.
“You recognize it.””
Celeste’s face went pale.
“That’s impossible.””
“What is it?””
She stared at the screen.
Her voice dropped to a whisper.
“That ring belonged to someone who was supposed to be dead.””
Amara looked between them.
“Who?””
Celeste didn’t answer.
The security monitor flickered.
The video froze.
Then the phone on Darius’s desk rang.
Everyone turned.
He picked it up.
A distorted voice spoke from the other end.
“Darius, if Amara is there with Celeste…”
Darius’s expression changed.
The room went silent.
The voice continued:
“Do not let Celeste tell her the truth.””
The call ended.
Darius slowly lowered the phone.
Amara looked frightened.
Celeste looked devastated.
And on the frozen security screen, the stranger’s hand remained beside the purse…
with the same silver ring that belonged to the person who knew Amara’s mother’s secret.
