Chapter 6: The Woman Who Kept the Secret

The wedding hall was no longer a place for a celebration.

It had become a place where the past had returned.

Darius ordered the staff to lock the main doors while security checked every entrance.

Guests complained.

Some demanded explanations.

Others quietly recorded everything on their phones.

But Darius ignored the noise.

His attention stayed on Celeste.

Because she knew something.

Something she had hidden for years.

Amara sat at an empty chair near the edge of the room.

She stared at the photograph.

Her mother’s smile looked different now.

Not because the picture had changed.

Because the story behind it had.

Celeste noticed her watching.

She slowly walked over.

“Amara.””

The girl didn’t look up.

“Did my mom trust you?””

Celeste stopped.

“Yes.””

“Then why did she run from you?””

Celeste sat across from her.

The expensive dress, the diamonds, the wealth—all of it suddenly seemed meaningless.

“I made a mistake.””

Amara looked at her.

“What mistake?””

Celeste looked down.

“A selfish one.””

Darius approached.

“You need to tell her.””

Celeste nodded.

“I know.””

She took a deep breath.

“Your mother and I worked together.””

“Doing what?””

“Photography.””

Amara looked confused.

“My mom took pictures?””

“Yes.””

Celeste smiled faintly.

“She loved capturing moments people forgot.””

Amara looked at the photo.

“She kept this.””

“Yes.””

“Why?””

Celeste touched the edge of the picture.

“Because that photo was proof.””

“Proof of what?””

Celeste hesitated.

“Of a promise.””

Darius watched her carefully.

“What promise?””

Celeste looked toward the wedding entrance.

“Your mother discovered something.””

“What?””

“Something about Marcus.””

The name returned.

Amara frowned.

“Who was he?””

Celeste lowered her voice.

“He worked for my family.””

Darius immediately noticed.

“Your family?””

Celeste nodded.

“My father owned several companies. Marcus managed security and private affairs.””

“Private affairs?””

Celeste looked uncomfortable.

“He knew things.””

“What kind of things?””

Celeste didn’t answer.

Darius stepped closer.

“Things that could hurt people?””

Celeste nodded.

“Yes.””

Amara looked frightened.

“And my mom found out?””

“Yes.””

“What did she find?””

Celeste looked at the photograph.

“The reason Marcus wanted her silent.””

Before anyone could continue, a security officer rushed into the room.

“Darius.””

He handed him a small envelope.

“We found this near the control panel.””

Darius opened it.

Inside was a handwritten note.

He read it silently.

Then his expression changed.

“What does it say?”” Celeste asked.

Darius handed it to her.

The note contained only one sentence.

*YOU STILL HAVEN’T TOLD HER THE WORST PART.*

Celeste’s hands began shaking.

Amara looked between them.

“What worst part?””

Nobody answered.

Darius looked at Celeste.

“You knew this day would come.””

Celeste didn’t deny it.

“Yes.””

“When?””

“Since the day Elena disappeared.””

Amara stood.

“Wait.””

Her voice trembled.

“You knew my mom disappeared?””

Celeste looked at her.

“Yes.””

“And you never found me?””

The question destroyed whatever defense Celeste had left.

Tears filled her eyes.

“I tried.””

Amara shook her head.

“No.””

“I did.””

“Then why didn’t you?””

Celeste looked away.

Because the answer was worse than silence.

Darius waited.

Finally, Celeste whispered:

“Because someone threatened to take you away from me too.””

Amara froze.

“Someone?””

Celeste nodded.

“Marcus.””

The name echoed through the empty hall.

Darius immediately turned toward the security team.

“Find him.””

One officer hesitated.

“Darius…”

“What?””

The officer looked at the monitor.

“The cameras just came back.””

Darius walked over.

The screen showed the entrance hallway.

A figure stood outside the locked doors.

Watching.

The dark jacket.

The silver ring.

The same person from the footage.

Darius moved closer.

Then the figure lifted a hand.

Not to wave.

To reveal something.

A second photograph.

The person pressed it against the glass.

May you like

And on the back of the photo was a name.

Amara’s name.
