Chapter 11 - VICTORIA FINALLY SAID WHY SHE TRIED TO DRAG CLARA AWAYDuring a deposition, Victoria was asked:

Why did you grab Clara at the wedding?
She answered:
“Because I recognized her.”
From photographs taken by the investigator.
There.
She knew exactly who Clara was.
“What did you think would happen if Adrian spoke to her?”
“He would believe her.”
“Why?”
“Because she had Elena’s necklace.”
“And?”
“The photograph.”
“And?”
Victoria started crying.
“Because it was true.”
That was the cleanest admission.
Not that every allegation was true.
That the child was Adrian’s.
That Elena was alive.
That Victoria had known.
Then:
“I thought if I could get them outside before Adrian understood, I could explain privately.”
