She did not present herself as only victim.
“I should have found another way to reach you.”
“Yes.”
“I let fear make every decision.”
“Yes.”
“I kept Clara from you.”
“Yes.”
She cried.
Then:
“I thought staying hidden was protecting her.”
Adrian looked at her.
“It protected her from one kind of danger and created another.”
She nodded.
No argument.
Then he admitted his own part.
He had made Victoria gatekeeper of too much of his personal life.
After Elena disappeared, Adrian became emotionally avoidant.
He let assistants handle messages.
Security handle visitors.
Lawyers handle family.
Convenient.
That did not make him responsible for intercepted calls.
