Chapter 9 - EMMA STOPPED FLINCHINGA year passed.

Emma changed.
Not dramatically.
In small ways.
She stopped apologizing when she asked staff for help.
She started inviting friends over again.
She laughed louder.
She slept better.
And one evening, Daniel noticed something.
He reached suddenly across the kitchen to catch a falling glass.
Emma did not flinch.
Months earlier, she would have.
He stared at her.
She noticed.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
But his eyes filled.
She understood.
She took his hand.
“I’m okay.”
He whispered:
“I’m sorry it took me so long to see.”
Emma smiled sadly.
May you like
“You see now.”
That mattered more.
