Chapter 6: The Message Left Behind

The diner felt smaller after Marcus drove away.

Not because the walls moved.

Because the truth had entered.

And there was no room left to hide from it.

Bear remained near the window long after the dark sedan disappeared down the road.

The neon sign outside flickered against his face.

Everyone watched him.

Nobody knew what to say.

Nobody except Nia.

“Bear.””

He didn’t turn.

“What?””

She hesitated.

“I’m sorry.””

Bear closed his eyes.

“For what?””

“For bringing this to you.””

Finally, he looked at her.

“You didn’t bring this.””

His voice was quiet.

“It was already here.””

Darius walked toward him.

“Bear, what did he mean?””

Bear looked at the bikers.

At the men who had stood beside him for years.

The men who trusted him.

The men he trusted.

“I don’t know.””

Darius frowned.

“You don’t know?””

Bear looked away.

“No.””

That answer frightened them.

Because Bear always knew.

He was the man people came to when they needed answers.

But tonight, he was standing in a diner full of questions.

Nia sat down at a booth.

Her hands were still shaking.

Bear walked over.

“You said my brother helped you.””

She nodded.

“He did.””

“What was his name?””

She looked at him.

“You never told me.””

Bear was silent.

Then:

“Elias.””

The name felt heavy.

Nia whispered it.

“Elias.””

The room changed.

Because suddenly the missing man wasn’t a mystery.

He was a person.

A brother.

A friend.

Someone who had left behind unfinished business.

Nia reached into her bag.

“I have something else.””

Bear looked at her.

“What?””

She pulled out a small folded piece of paper.

“I was supposed to give this to someone.””

“When?””

“Before he disappeared.””

Bear took it carefully.

“You had this for years?””

She nodded.

“I was scared.””

Bear unfolded it.

The handwriting was messy.

Rushed.

But familiar.

His hands stopped moving.

Because he knew that handwriting.

He had seen it on birthday cards.

Old letters.

Notes left on his kitchen counter.

His brother’s handwriting.

The message was short.

*Bear, if you’re reading this, I failed. Don’t trust the people closest to you.*

Bear stared.

Darius stepped closer.

“What does it say?””

Bear folded the paper.

“Nothing.””

Everyone noticed the lie.

Before anyone could push further, the front windows shattered.

Glass exploded across the floor.

Everyone dropped.

Nia screamed.

Bear covered her.

A small object rolled across the tile.

A phone.

Not broken.

Still recording.

Darius picked it up carefully.

The screen showed a video already playing.

Elias.

Older.

Tired.

Sitting somewhere dark.

Alive.

Every person in the diner froze.

Bear stepped closer.

His brother looked directly into the camera.

“Elias on video: If you’re seeing this, then Marcus found you.””

Bear’s face changed.

The video continued.

“Elias on video: And if Marcus found you, it means I was right.””

The room went silent.

Elias looked away from the camera.

Like he was afraid someone was listening.

“Elias on video: Bear, there’s something you need to know about our club.””

The video glitched.

The image distorted.

Then returned.

Elias leaned closer.

His voice dropped.

“Elias on video: The person who betrayed me is someone you call family.””

The video suddenly cut.

Black screen.

No ending.

No explanation.

Only one final message appeared.

*FILE DELETED.*

Bear stared at the phone.

Then slowly looked around the diner.

At every biker standing there.

At every familiar face.

Because for the first time in his life…

he didn’t know who he could trust.
