Chapter 7 - CAROLINE WASN’T AS UNTOUCHABLE AS SHE THOUGHTCaroline Wells broke first.

Her parents were wealthy.
But unlike Richard Prescott, they were horrified.
They watched the staircase video.
Then the “Blind Maze” clip.
Caroline’s mother started crying.
Her father asked:
“Did you do this?”
Caroline said:
“Madeline started it.”
Her father replied:
“I didn’t ask who started it.”
Good.
Caroline admitted everything.
She described a group of six students who had targeted Grace.
Not every day.
Enough.
They moved objects.
Changed classroom seating.
Whispered wrong directions.
Used her cane as a joke.
Why Grace?
At first, because she was new.
Then because she reported them.
After that, bullying became punishment for reporting bullying.
Classic.
Caroline also revealed something important.
Madeline often said:
“They won’t suspend us.”
“How did she know?”
“Her dad told her he would handle it.”
Richard denied saying that.
Caroline’s messages suggested otherwise.
One text from Madeline:
Dad says schools panic when checks stop. Relax.
The sentence spread quickly through the investigation.
Not because it proved a financial crime.

Because it revealed belief.
Madeline genuinely thought her father’s money sat above school rules.
