Dr. Shaw’s report reached the state board of education.
Westbridge was private.
But it received substantial state funding for disability services, transportation reimbursements, and scholarship partnerships.
That meant compliance obligations.
The state opened a review.
Suddenly, Westbridge’s problem was not one donor.
It was accreditation.
Funding.
Insurance.
Liability.
The governing board met in emergency session.
Richard Prescott tried to attend.
He was refused because of conflict of interest.
For the first time, his name did not open the door.
That mattered.
Two trustees resigned.
One admitted they had been aware of concerns involving donor families but never requested full disciplinary reports.
Headmaster Whitman was placed on administrative leave.
Dean Watkins was suspended pending investigation.
The school hired outside counsel.
Parents panicked.
Some blamed Grace.
Of course.
Anonymous comments appeared online:
One girl is destroying the school.
Grace saw one.
She asked me:
“Why is it always the person who reports the problem that gets blamed for the damage?”
I answered:
“Because the damage was easier to ignore before someone named it.”
