Chapter 7 - GABRIEL MORENOWe found Gabriel.

He was thirty-seven.

Owned a small construction company in Rhode Island.

Married.

Two children.

He thought Elena Moreno was his mother.

She had raised him alone.

Elena had died eight years earlier.

That meant she died without ever knowing what happened to the baby she gave birth to.

Ethan called Gabriel.

The conversation lasted less than a minute.

Then Gabriel hung up.

Understandably.

Three days later, he called back.

“What are you saying?”

Ethan answered carefully.

“That we may have been switched at birth.”

Gabriel laughed once.

Not because it was funny.

Then:

“My mother used to say that.”

Ethan froze.

“What?”

“She thought the hospital gave her the wrong baby.”

Gabriel’s voice changed.

“I thought she was obsessed.”

That sentence broke both men.

Elena had apparently spent years trying to convince people.

Family.

Lawyers.

The hospital.

Nobody believed her.

She had little money.

Margaret had lawyers.

The Harringtons had influence.

The story disappeared.

Not through a grand conspiracy.

Through imbalance.

One woman had resources.

May you like

One didn’t.

Silence did the rest.
