Chapter 8 - THE THIRD DNA TEST CHANGED EVERYTHINGGabriel agreed to testing.

The results arrived eleven days later.

Gabriel was Margaret’s biological son.

Ethan was not.

Then came the second comparison.

Ethan and preserved genetic material from Richard’s medical records.

Richard was Ethan’s biological father.

We stared at the result.

That meant the babies had not been simply switched.

Because Gabriel was Margaret’s biological child.

And Ethan was Richard’s biological child.

But they did not share the same biological mother.

The nursery-switch theory was only half-right.

The truth was stranger.

Richard had fathered a child with Elena Moreno.

At the same time Margaret was pregnant with Gabriel.

Both women delivered sons at the same hospital on the same day.

Then the babies were switched.

So Ethan had been raised by his biological father and the wrong mother.

Gabriel had been raised by his biological father’s affair partner—who was actually Ethan’s biological mother.

The room went completely silent when we understood it.

Richard had been having an affair with Elena.

Margaret had known.

Maybe not before the births.

Certainly afterward.

Now her hatred of DNA made sense.

It exposed not merely a hospital error.

May you like

It exposed her husband’s betrayal.

And the son she had raised was living proof of it.
