Chapter 10 - ROSA WASN’T “JUST THE HOUSEKEEPER”Melissa tried to discredit Rosa.

She said Rosa was obsessed with Lucy.
Resentful.
Angry about scheduling.
Trying to break our marriage.
Then the recordings showed Rosa doing the opposite.
She comforted Lucy.
Documented concerns.
Tried to reach me.
Never asked for money.
Never threatened Melissa.
Never encouraged Lucy to speak against her mother.
At one point in a recording, Lucy said:
“Mommy is bad.”
Rosa corrected her.
“No, sweetheart. Mommy did something that scared you. We don’t decide whole people from one thing.”
When I heard that, I cried.
Rosa showed more emotional maturity in one sentence than most adults around Lucy had managed in months.
After the case stabilized, Rosa offered to resign.
“I don’t want to be part of family problems.”
I said:
“You protected my daughter.”
She shook her head.
“I was supposed to.”
“Yes.”
“But you did.”
She stayed.
Under clearer employment boundaries.
Better pay.
